Dwarves
Granmont has always had its dwarves, but in the decades since the Beaumonts established their mines the population has really exploded. While the city has a few elder dwarves that learned their arts from the ancient masters of a bygone era, the vast majority of its dwarf population is younger dwarven laborers seeking to establish themselves in a world that hasn't seen a Great Dwarven City since centuries before they were born. Some dwarves hold resentment towards their "being born in the wrong age", but many are ignorant of the heights their civilizations had seen.
Dwarves under a biological process known as Lithification. As they age their skins hardens and cracks, becoming like stone. Their eyes dull and then harden until they resemble gemstones set in sockets. And their harden cools as they become world-wary and reclusive. Such elder dwarves become hermits in the mountains, underground, or in another plane. This leaves only the young, untended, to fumble their way through life.
