S23: There's Trouble in Norrven

We reported back to Luca in Faerstow in the rain - blasted weather this is. All else aside, it's the first bed we sleep in for awhile, so the rest is good.   I wonder...Should I be taking time in the mornings to pray, like a priest or a champion of a god? Seren gave me no directive of the sort, and...I haven't prayed to anything in so long. What would I even pray for? I couldn't ask for strength, and she already offers guidance unbidden when it's right. Perhaps I could simply offer thanks? Though, I can't imagine her claiming responsibility for my living to see morning - it's not really her...domain?   Maybe I should talk to a priest - though it could bring some trouble to ask how to pray to a god that few may know.   Luca joins us for breakfast - not a fan of the axebeak it would seem, and when we're all gathered, he call us to the meeting room in the basement.   He sounds almost cautious - not the jovial front we're used to with him as we talk about the trip to Norrven.   We have a lead on Illan - a place they call the Jack-o-Tavern. The...gangs are getting too organized, and someone needs to disrupt them, and find out why the elves are coming out of the forest. First, though, we really need to make our way to Hraegard.

S21 - Outlaws, Orcs, Onidae

It's...disorienting at first, finding myself floating in the stars. Ke-Iko is here...alive? The star, the...energy that is keeping him from moving on for now.   He's frustrated, I know. It's clear he's burdened by the weight of...something. There's a clear objection to my giving up a piece of myself so he can live. Seren came to explain, and he explained - he doesn't want other people to face the consequences for his actions. I can relate. Still, with a little convincing, he agreed to take this gift, though he made it clear he'll want to have a discussion when his work on the Material is complete.   It's...tense, when we awaken - there's no hiding what's happened, clearly. I have to tell them about Seren, though, for now, it's left at that. Meanwhile, we make a sweep of the rest of the fortress, ending up in their meeting room, talking about Gro'Kata, and a possible alliance with a crime group based in Highport. There are some corpses in what appears to be some holding cells here - a merchant and his guards. Noble from Norrven.   We leave, and make camp, it's quiet....Time to explain.

S20 - Internal

It's been long enough. We're heading into the fort to check on Ke-Iko.   It's crowded, and we're outnumbered. Clearly some bandits, a couple more organized folk - and...outriders, orcs. Illan is here, too, that bastard.   Damn! Ke-Iko - we're not in position to start a fight! It's too late, and he's in the middle of the fray, if I can just get them behind me, we should be able to manage, though. There's a defensible-looking room to the side here. I'd rather not have to fight them all at once, if it can be helped. At least the outriders are leaving - they were my greatest worry here.   *Six seconds pass*   Alright, at least I'm not surprised that this plan didn't work, but Ke-Iko's taken off, and he's alone. We can't waste any time...Damn it...We have to push, and fast. Time to relive the old glory days, I guess.   After making work of the rabble in the main hall, we move out to the courtyard, and they've got a...sharkman? Malachi helped me out here, provided some extra reach.   It's...been a long time since I've held this sword. Hello again, my old friend - you're sharp as ever, I see.   The last of them flee once the big one falls. I saw Illan run this way - Ke-Iko must have followed. If I can just get high enough to get a view over the wall - No...Damn it, Ke-Iko - how many times have we told you not to run off? It was bound to happen eventually, I know, but...I'm not ready.   My Lady of the Stars, you said that I could call on you. I know it was only days ago, but I need you now. My Lady Seren, please... Your champion calls for your aid.   Please, let me help my friend.

S20 - Magnam Subsinctus

Ke-Iko's been gone too long - we're goin' in.   It ain't but a sec after we get to the top of the tower, I see Illan - there's some unsavory folks, too - bandit-types, and...orc outriders?   All Hells breaks loose, and it's a bloody fight - I think I mighta blacked out there for a minute, and...Ke-Iko? That's...a lot o' blood, buddy... Too much blood...No...not like this...

S19 - Magnam Subsinctus

Morning, it's quiet, and we're able to git breakfast without a problem. I got Malachi started on a workout, so he can bulk up if he's gonna keep usin' a spear while he fights. We talk about where we're headin' next, and settle on headin' to the fort first, and stopping to check on Korval on the way back to Faerstow.   We head out to the fort, and make camp a little more than a day out from the fort. It's a quiet night, morning comes quick enough, and we start on our way. We're comin' up to the fort, and it's lookin' more like a castle that a fort now - there's guards, I think, on the walls, one tower still standin'. They got the high ground so we're gettin' off the road.   Ke-Iko's goin' in to scout the place, and I have...concerns.

S18 - Magnam Subsinctus

We made out way through the woods to get to Kloffi - found a bunch o' guild hunters...dead. Minky and Ke-Iko had a plan - they managed to sneak up to it, stick 'im with the potion to get it so sleep - but he went ballistic. I charged on in there to get his attention, but he didn't pay me any mind while he managed to poke Minky with a horn. Ke-Iko is trying to hold him down with magic, while Minky brings a uh...zombie thing into the fight. I give 'im a couple pokes myself, before he stomps on Minky's new buddy. Turns out, he was dead 'fore we got here, but we're still gonna try - the tranquilizer finally starts to do its job, and he goes to sleep, so I hogtie 'im, as you do, and Minky and Ke-Iko start workin' on the ritual.   The beast lets out a breath, a sorta fog, and Kloffi seems to change - blood is red, then...he's gone. At rest, I hope.

S 16-17 - Magnam Subsinctus

Miracle of miracles, we managed a sleep without the town explodin'! And I smell...I smell, Bacon? Bacon!   *one hour later*   Alright, so it turns out all you can eat bacon is not all you can eat. Buuut, with any luck, we'll get some lunch bacon, too, after we get...clothes? I guess we're gettin' clothes, and then I can go back to bacon. - And the mayor is comin' too!   While the mayor and I sit down for brunch, we see Malachi's all fancied up with a new shield and spear, and we manage lunch before I head over to the forge and pick up a quick project before we head to the Hunter's Guild to talk to our old hunter friend, who checks out the group and gets Ke-Iko a paper for somethin' or another before we head out to the gate, a couple extra horses, makin' our way to the fort up north!   Of course, we're not a league out when we come across a big ol' dragon ogre, Korrval, all sorts o' hurtin' after his buddy the boar when al mad about the hunter's guild goin' after 'im. Looks like we go tour work cut out for us already. Claufey, his companion got blighted, sounds like, and we gotta find a way to help - keep it from happenin' again. We gotta put it to sleep, do a ritual to send the soul onward. I sure hope it works.

S15 - Magnam Subsinctus

Welp, we're on the road again. The road to Faerstow is nice an' quiet, and as we make our way, we can see the Mother's Tree off in the distance. Malachi gets us some rooms at the inn, and we take a rushed moment to try and get some things done in town, hopin' nothin' follow us here.   Aunty Ru over at the Arms 'n' Armor shop is a peach, and even offered to touch up one o' my shiny toys for me for pickin' up tomorrow around lunch! Ke-Iko got the crowd all riled up while we were gone, tellin' stories and such, and now we're like local famous folk! We been in town a whole few hours, and it ain't burnin' down, so maybe we'll make it to mornin' okay.   OH HEY, It's lambchops and potatoes, my favorite!   For the first time in what feels like forever, we can get cleaned up, and even manage a full night rest. Here's hopin' we can make it to noon the same way!

S14 - Magnam Subsinctus

Well, we have a few days travel ahead of us, so we best get movin'. Ke-Iko took the whole watch one night - slept it off the next day, which works out. Makes sure we don't all have to take bits o' watch at night, but we probably ought not to make a habit o' that.   We do come up on a poor fella stuck in the middle o' the road. He broke his only crossbow, the poor guy, and needs help gettin' to town. He's thirsty, so let's get him some wa- AH SHEEIT, HE'S A BANDIT. And the guy from the tavern is with 'em too, that bastard!   They're tough, but we're lots tougher. They start goin' down one after the otherm just like in the books, till it's just the one in the real sioldier-y armor that's left. He's got a big axe, even stops to ask me my name while we're fightin' - weird, but okay, I'm nothin' if not friendly. Still though, talkin' ain't never kept no one alive more'n a minute, so he's dead now.   I guess they wanted to stop us gettin' to Norrven, so naturally, we're headed there next.

S13 - Magnam Subsinctus

Alright, here we go I guess. Down into the poor innkeep's basement...   It's a whole storage basement down here. There's a couple lit candles, so we get our lanterns and torches ready, but there's no one here, 'sides us. Waaait...What's that smell? WAIT - that's some air from...another room? THERE'S A SCONCE - that means there a secret passage! First, though, let's pack up these rations. Aw, there's a body down here, too? But...why, though? Is she the pink one Camellia's plant friends were talking about?   This tunnel is a steep, steep walk down, and there's some masonry down here - like the end of an old mine or somethin'. Deeper down, there's what looks like an old...camp? No fire, but a bedroll and backpack. We gotta keep going down, and - WHAT THE HELLS?! This Crystal's twice the size it looks like from above ground. There's a whole pillar of it down here, and smaller crystals just pokin' outta the ground. Is this what our innkeep-guy was lookin' out for?   Now Malachi and Minky AND Ke-iko are makin' explosives outta the crystals. I got a bad feelin' about this...   Back up the way, we find a small shed - looks like this is where she lived...Let's put 'er in the ground where she cared for her plants. It's the best we can offer her now.

S12 - Magnam Subsinctus

We find ourselves in the Crystalline Wayhouse, officially in Zielgarden - the innkeep, Elan, is a real friendly sort, serves up fresh ale and lets us know there's beds for the night, even. He offers us the whole place free o' charge! The stew is good, and it seems like everyone is feelin' a little better.   Elan sounds like he's got some experience in adventurin', or at least experience with the adventurin' types. He asks a few questions, nothin' to uh...personal, but he's friendly, fer sure.   Malachi has some...misgivin's about our host, so I guess we're on the hunt for some sort of bad news - of course we're lookin' for bad news. Malachi's in the attic, Ke-Iko is sneaking around in the dining room, like we got a right mystery on our hands - can't we just have a nice dinner, get some good sleep fer once?   There's a clang from the kitchen - turns out to just be Ke-iko makin' noise - I guess they found some blood upstairs 'n' it's freakin' 'em out. I guess we'll go check on the horses, make sure Elan isn't a horse thief.   And to think we coulda just gone to bed. Now, We got missin' rations, someone tried to break into the chest we're deliverin', and everyone's all PARANOID-like. Adventurers, I swear.   *sigh* now I'M breakin' into things, and I feel bad - there's a storage room o' some sort, and I guess we're headin' into the basement...

S11 - Magnam Subsinctus

We're not catchin' up to the cart today, so we're campin' in the rain. It's gonna be a long night, ain't it?   Much to my pleasant surprise, I was not woke up even once during the night! Now, to see if we can't catch up to the cart!   Up at the bend at around noon, we catch up to the cart with Frederick and the boys, and there's some folks millin' about with a wizard-type fella, Inquisitor Harlin. He's been waitin' for us with Frederick, maybe to follow along?   I think the might be investigatin' the events o'er at Yarhdam and Pella, he asks us to tell 'im about it, and Malachi gets us rollin'. I fill in a bit of what I knew too, and he wizards himself off somewhere. We're off to Norrven!   Wait a minute...why couldn't we take the wizard sled to Hraegard?...   Anyways, we're on into Zielgarden now, and we get to stay at a fancy inn near an Incarnum Crystal of all things. Neat!

S10 - Magnam Subsinctus

The rain's comin' down, and there's a flash over by the guard house - we gotta get there, quick! There's another man over there, but he's got like...ears, not like, regular ears, but like, fox-type ears, and his birdman companion - he looks like he's ready for a fight.   Fox-man goes through a magic door o' some kind, and bird-man gets ready for the real thin -- HOLY MOLY HE'S A BEAR.   It's a bit rough - I'm scratched up, and his blood's like fire - burns something fierce. We're pokin' holes in him slow but sure, but he's grinnin' like a fool - like 'e's enjoyin' gettin' hurt - AGH, HE'S A BITER! Slippery little fangworm, this guy.   NOW HE'S A GIANT LIZARD?! -- Ey, you leave Minky alone!   IT   IS   DINO RODEO TIME.   We...we did it -Damn tough bastard, this one, but he's down - I need a breather.   Cammelia patched me up, I think I'm about ready to go, see if we can help some of these - ANOTHER SPEAR?! DANG IT. I swear I'm losin' one of these every other day. At least the guardhouse is right there.   We gotta go get help for those people by the burnin' part o' town.   The people are gone - ran out o' town, but things are quiet now. The whole place ain't burnin' at least.

S9 - Magnam Subsinctus

WHAT...A...DREAM - big ol' woody antler-havin' critter is drinkin' from the pond. Oh...OH, I think he sees us. I guess...everyone's been here before? And now, we're uh...here again? It' sbeeen calling to us, so we can try and..save nature, I guess. It says we should go toward the World Tree to help - maybe once we're done in Hraegard? Lookin' for a cloaked man with a Raven Crest - that's a start.   He gave Camellia a pice o' horn and a name, even - Grosok.   We even make it to morning without gettin' eaten by wolves - I am shocked. Now, ON to Pella! Buuut not before we find out that one of the guards has a uh...wood arm!   Now, it's a mostly quiet trip with a couple drunk guardsmen lookin' sad at their dead buddy. It's a long trip for being such a short trip.   Back to the captain, we'll get the soldiers home and be on our way up to Hraegard.   He heard abotuy Yardham - and apparently there's a survivor - we ought to check in before we get our rooms.   Back at the Old Scoundrel, it's busy as you'd expect, and my new friends are even here.   Ke-Iko came back with bad news - apparently the guy that burned down Yardham is here, and Pella is next. We're off to get tha captain!

S 8 - Magnam Subsinctus

Where was I? OH yeah, that...is a big dog.   Now, we had to get in there quick if we were gonna have a chance to save anyone. We rush in, just in time for the big ol' wolf to SPIT GREEN GOO - What in the Hells?   NOW IT'S ON FIRE?! This is not what I signed up for.   NOW IT EXPLODES?! Gimme a break!   ...I lost another spear, dang it. Where'd Ke-Iko go? Just right vanished in the middle of the fight! Oh, but he's okay, still alive.   Nigel and Derrick are a couple of the militiamen's names. Oswald, the one what lost his arm, I think. We're carryin' them back toward the caravan, but they're havin' a hard time. It's gonna be a long trip back to town.   Now, where the Hell are Frederick and the boys? - Oh they're alive! Thank the gods. Now we can get back to town.   And NOW everyone is lookin' at my shiny biceps, great.

S 7 - Magnam Subsinctus

We finally made it to Pella, and head over to the Old Scoundrel. It's real fancy in here, with its floatin' candles and such. It's busy too, real busy for a little place like this - AND THE CANDLES TAKE ORDERS?! How in the Hells are these beds only three silvers?   I guess there's some nutty band o' adventurers heading out to the Godscar - rumors, anyway, but the locals seems to belive a bit of it. - Woah, these candles are really somethin'.   There''s a table o' right friendly folk at one o' these tables, sharin' the ale! They mention some Dire Coeurls have been taken over to Gro'Kata, maybe the only cats in the world uglier than Malachi's, so they say.   Alright, maybe they're TOO friendly...   Mornin', and there's already breakfast cookin'! Boy, it makes me miss Ebonstead every time I get a hot meal. The Sherriff shows up, and asks about hiring for some militia work - Captain Aaron, he is. He's lost some of his men in the woods up north, and needs someone to go fetch 'em to retun home. They're a patrol out to the mines up north. It sounds like we're takin' a detour to make sure these guys get home safe.   We head off into Westarbor, and the first day of travel in is nice and quiet. Day 2, we manage to get all they way into the afternoon, when suddenly, a couple o' the party run off into the woods!   THAT...is a BIG WOLF.

S 6 - Magnam Subsinctus

It's mornin' and we really ought to gety outta here. We're headin' out, farther up north toward Pella -here's hopin' it's in better shape than Yardham. Frederick and the boys are here, quiet - I'm guessin' they didn't handle the night too well.   It's a quiet day out, but the day goes on, and we get to camp wihotu any uh...chaos. We're gonna have to take longer watches, being down two members... The night goes quiet too though.   Movin' on, it's another morning, sunny now - maybe we can make betfter time today. It still feels too quiet. Only one more day to Pella though, so that's a good sign!   Oh great, and now there's rain - cold rain, even. A muddy walk to Pella? This is criminal. - but we do finally get to Pella. There's a fancy inn with some magic torches floatin' around, and our first hot meal in a few days.

S5 - Magnam Subsinctus

DING - I guess that's as good a wake-up call as any, the church is chimin', and that's weird this late - maybe we should go take a look.   Now there's the alarm bells ringin', and I think that's our queue to go! There's sounds of fightin' outside, sounds like a war's goin' on out there! At least Frederick is gettin' the cart ready with the boys, but Thea and Lance are missin' and now Camellia is runnin' off with Minky, and the whole thing's a right mess. Now we're runnin' through the market square, and AW SHIT, there's an assassin - Lance is down, Thea's down, and apparently nowhere is safe!   Malachi has the bright idea to ask "Why?" and of course, it turns out Thea and Lance started it, and she says she was defending herself. Malachi manages to talk his way around to go find Ke-Iko, whilc the rest of us head back to the cart to watch Frederick and the boys. We get the cart on the road, and wait way too long for Micah and Ke-Iko to show up before we skipped town.   The horses are tired, so we're stoppin' ealier than I'd like, but we're out of town at least. We're settin' watches, and hopin' the night is quiet.   Morning comes, and we're all still alive, except for Lance and Thea, which is sayin'...somthing. Camellia's talking to the bushes now, stress must be gettin' her. We're able to get camp packed up and continue on the road toward Pelham. Ke-Iko thinks the folks that showed up in Yardham knew who we were because o' them, something about a familiar presence that brought them to town, for some unknown reason, revenge o' some kind for making a town to close to their home. They apparently told Ke-Iko to leave, and of course, Ke-Iko didn't listen - why am I not surprised.   We get back to moving, and for awhile, the group tries tinkerin' with the chest, thinkin' about getting it open - I want nothing to do with that nonsense; let's just get the thing where its goin'.

S4 - Magnam Subsinctus

Welp, it's morning, and half o' camp is on edge. James ain't hardly speakin', and the guards are... uh...embarrased o' themselves, it seems.   Five days in, but at least today's mostly quiet, and we're finally at the fork between Yardham and Lyeditch. It's starting to look more an' more like the Silver Fields, and we're off to Yardham. There's a bit of a camp in the forest near Yardham, maybe military o' some kind? Fancy banners and tents all over the place, though I couldn't tell ya who it belongs to. White bird, with black and blue behind it. Looks like we're in for a talk with some o' the grunts!   We get to talkin' and Malachi takes the lead, tellin' 'em about our travel so far, and where we're headed. They make the usual asks about our cargo and business, and ask if we seen any forest folk, the wild ones, elves and such.   Aaanyway, they let us on to Yardham, and we can resupply for the next leg of the trek.   I managed to get ahold of a busted up pitchfork to use as a spear till we can get a proper one. The barkeep says the men on the road are lookin' for someone, too, headed south.   Ke-Iko's here now, makin' friendly with the barman, who says there's another fox runnin' round. Maybe they can make friends!   Malachi asked me about some o' the books I read, so I listed off the ones I could remember right away, but I guess none of them were interesting to him, so he asked me about some golden deer, and wandered off to talk to a drunk old man across the way before we managed to get to bed. I get to sleep by a fire for the first time in awhile, even!

S3 - Magnam Subsinctus

It's an ambush!   There's about as many of them as us, and these adventurers are just WALKIN' into them. I better get them in shape if we're gonna git into any real fights. A couple o' orcs and some goblins are gonna be trouble if we just go runnin' head in! I tried givin' some pointers, but these kids, not a one listens! Lance gets his spear busted with his first poke, but somehow manages to get one with his busted weapon.   Now he's bein' throttled, great. Who taught these guys to fight?   Wait, Ke-Iko is PERSON-SHAPED? - Ah, dang it, now Thea's hurt. DANGIT, now Cammelia's hurt.   We're makin' some progress, but Minky's havin' a hard time gettin' hold on one o' the little ones - Camellia got a couple with a crossbow, but Lance and Thea are in rough shape - the big one managed to bleed out though, and they routed. We gave a couple o' partin' shots to finish the last of 'em, and headed back to camp to nurse some wounds.   It's gonna be a long night...

S2 - Magnam Subsinctus

Well, it's morn', and about time to head out to Hraegard. This whole band is a bunch o' early risers - I didn't even hafta go push them out o' their beds!   The wagon for this train is about set as we get there, Freedrick is the head around here, and the boys, James and Wes, his hands. Headman lets the guards, Theah, the pikeman and Lance - who does not have a lance, know we're all accounted fer, and a bit later, this band o' warriors, all carryin' a manner o' weapons heads out ahead o' us. They boys finish loadin' up, and we get set to be on our way. Freedrick heads to fetch the horses and the guards get comfy in the wagon.   We get a look at the map, and start plannin' a route, and there's some banter along the way, while we decide where we're goin'. Freedrick's a kindly fella, likes to chat. We get to campin' and Malachi sorcels up some grub. and we get our first camp.   It's a quiet couple days along the road, but of course, these things aren't meant to last...

S1 - Magnam Subsinctus

We're here at the hall, but I'm not quite sure where I'm headed yet. It's mostly empty here, but this is definitely the place, right? I woulda thought a bunch of folks would answer the call.   Folks do start comin' in after a while, and a sign is put up. A lady with green skin, looks sorta like a plant, and a wizardy-lookin' fella with a cat - ugly, hairless thing - why in the Hells would you take a hairless cat up north? He looks at it like they're...familiar. There's a bird-person, too, short little thing, kinda hops around, always lookin' uncormfortable. A fox of all things, like, a honest-to-goodness fox, curled right up to me! Am...am I a wizard?   I pet the fox. It was a test, and of course, I failed miserably. Then I started hearin' voices! Maybe it was a poisonous fox? The green lady tried a potion, but I'm still hearin' voices! Maybe the fox is the wizard.   A fancy elf sent us over to the dinner room, and left us there to introduce ourselves. the wizardy one is Malachi, then there's Cammelia - she's the green one, and Minky is the birdfolk. Now, I'm gonna have to get a name for my new fox friend, but I'll give it a few days, to make sure it's a good one.   One eternity later, the elf man shows up to meet us all more official-like - Elarien Velo-something of some House Ravilier or somethin' - part of the uh...representatives of the High Council. Why're elf names so long, anyway? There ain't so many that they need so much name. He asks after us, what brought us here - they offer some wild gold - five thousand when we finish up a task, to transport a gift to the Hraegard clans. Hells, no way to turn down that kind of gold when I'm livin' on the scraps I can collect on odd jobs. all in all, sounds like a fair deal.   We did a thorough introduction, and we've got a couple magic users even. Maybe this job won't be so dangerous after all. even if it's gonna be a long walk.   We get our start-up money, and the fox floats a peice of silver through the air and eats it! The fox IS a wizard. He takes off as soon as the door's open, and we grab some foot to-go-like, and make our way out, catch up with Ke-Iko - that's the fox's name - outside The Dapper Jackalope. Drop off our nonessentials, and split up to gather the last of our supplies for the trip.   Tomorrow, we'll be heading out.
