The War of Brifux
The War of Brifux was a decade-long conflict on the continent of Brifux, driven by territorial conquest, military resilience, and strategic diplomacy. Led by Warchief Azuk , the united orc clans of the mountains descended upon the southern lands, seeking to claim new territory and secure a stable food supply for their people. What began as scattered proxy conflicts and border skirmishes escalated into a full-scale war, culminating in the creation of Lar Azrel, the orc capital, and the capture of the farming city of Vrido . Despite reinforcements from The Continent of Grenias , the forces of Brifux were unable to reclaim the lost land, resulting in an uneasy truce that permanently reshaped the continent’s political landscape.
The Conflict
Prelude
For generations, the orc tribes of the mountains lived in fragmented clans, surviving through raiding and seasonal migrations. However, after a tribe found a broken sword that seemed to ignite the flames of their orcish heritage, birthright, and love of conquest, War Chief Azuk was able to bring the clans united under a single banner, forming an organized and disciplined war force.
Beginning in 4190 instead of an immediate war, the orcs engaged in raids, land disputes, and proxy battles, testing the strength of the southern forces. Small towns and key trade routes were disrupted, forcing Brifux to divert military resources. As Brifux struggled to repel the increasingly coordinated orc incursions, they underestimated Azuk’s long-term strategy. His forces were not mindless raiders but calculated invaders, slowly establishing footholds in contested lands. In 4193, the orcs launched a sudden and devastating assault, sacking the city of Vas Luthrin, seizing its fortifications, infrastructure, and strategic position. This city was renamed Lar Azrel, solidifying their presence on the continent.
Deployment
Once the orcs fortified Lar Azrel, the war shifted from border skirmishes to an all-out conflict. With Brifux now fully recognizing the threat, the continent attempted to mount a counteroffensive. The ruling forces attempted to reclaim Lar Azrel, launching multiple sieges, but each attempt was thwarted by Azuk’s superior defenses and battlefield strategy. The natural mountain terrain, paired with orc fortifications, made it nearly impenetrable. Recognizing their inability to reclaim the lost city alone, Brifux petitioned Grenias for military support. The Order of the Golden Dragon, an elite force of monks and warriors, was dispatched to assist. With Grenian support, Brifux forces focused on disrupting supply lines and engaging in precision strikes rather than direct assaults. However, Azuk responded by striking deeper into Brifux territory, seizing Vrido, a vital farming city that supplied much of the southern regions. The capture of Vrido was a crippling blow and without control over the primary food supply, Brifux’s forces faced shortages, forcing them to reconsider their strategy.
Battlefield
The war was fought across mountains, fortified cities, and open plains, with brutal seasonal conditions impacting both sides. The orc forces thrived in the mountainous terrain, utilizing natural fortifications and ambush tactics. Brifux’s forces, unaccustomed to fighting in elevated terrain, suffered heavy losses. The battle for Lar Azrel and Vrido featured prolonged sieges, with Brifux struggling to breach orc defenses. Assaulting orc strongholds proved costly, leading to tactical retreats. Control over Vrido’s farmland gave the orcs a sustainable food supply, allowing them to maintain their war effort while forcing Brifux to ration supplies and rely on external trade and the farming town of Rark.
"A city does not fall in a day. It falls when the last defender stops fighting. When no one remembers what was lost. I remember."
The Engagement
As the war neared its final years, both sides had reached a stalemate. Seeing the war dragging on, Grenias sent hired mercenaries from the city of Adis - Jewel of the Desert and more monks from the Order of the Golden Dragon, hoping to break the deadlock. Instead of engaging in large-scale battles, Azuk shifted to asymmetric warfare, harassing enemy forces through quick strikes and ambushes. Brifux attempted multiple offensives to regain control of Vrido, but the orc forces entrenched themselves, making any counterattack costly and ineffective. Realizing that neither side could gain the upper hand, negotiations for a truce began.
Outcome
By 4199, both Brifux and Grenias recognized that they could not reclaim the lost territory without suffering catastrophic losses. The orcs retained control over Lar Azrel and Vrido, ensuring their permanent presence on the continent. Though losing key land, Brifux preserved stability, preventing further incursions through treaties and reinforced borders. With the war at an end, the Order of the Golden Dragon withdrew, leaving behind lasting cultural exchanges and warriors shaped by the war. Though the war ended in truce, its consequences reshaped Brifux’s power dynamics forever.
Aftermath
The orcs of Lar Azrel became a recognized power, integrating into regional politics and trade. The continent had suffered major losses, so Brifux restructured its military, focusing more on rapid-response forces and counter-infiltration tactics in which Trosall became more focused on military affairs.
"Borders are not drawn with ink and parchment. They are carved in stone, in blood, and in the silence left behind."
"We did not come as invaders. We came as survivors. This land is ours now, not by your mercy, but by the strength of our will. Remember that."
