The Guardian’s Vigil
The Guardian’s Vigil is a solemn ceremony honoring the Ishin Guard and the sacrifices they make to protect Bokdat. It is a day of reflection and gratitude, where the city comes together to pay respects to both the living and fallen members of the Guard.
History
The tradition began during Bokdat’s formative years, after the Ishin Guard successfully defended the city from a devastating attack. The citizens vowed to honor the Guard’s bravery annually as a reminder of the sacrifices made for their safety.
Execution
The vigil begins at dusk, with the Ishin Guard lighting torches and marching through the city’s streets. They are accompanied by monks chanting blessings. The procession ends at Ryoketsu Hall, where a public ceremony is held. Names of fallen guards are read aloud, and wreaths are placed at a memorial site. The event concludes with a moment of silence and a pledge of loyalty from new recruits.
Observance
The vigil takes place on the first full moon of summer. It is both a public and personal reflection, with families often visiting the graves of fallen guards to pay their respects.
