Session 2: Into the Darkness Report

General Summary

Last we left off, Balazar made a grand exit from the party. Exhausted and determined, he fought off the effect of the Gaes spell; however, there were some interesting effects that occurred. The ancient axe flew to his hand and in his exhausted state he was taken over by the spirits of his ancestors leaving and only saying, "We must train." After a few more days travel, the group encountered a few Drow scouts that were looking for members of their own party and investigating disappearances near the grove. During these travels, Gunthar also found a coat that seemed to make others around him (and himself) a little more confident. Upon entering the grove, the group scanned around seeing the colony of Myconids performing their daily rituals and eventually made themselves down to the growing caves which was a sacred place for healing and nourishment. Further exploring, the ran across Bajok and freed a wizard named Theo-den that had been captured to serve as a sacrifice to the demons that had come through the portal that was open. A fight ensued between then and they smote Bajok's essence across the floor. Moving deeper into the caverns, the group encountered two heads of the fungal hydra and were able to save one of the myconid's that had been brought down there for processing. After a long and hard fought victory they settled down for rest; however, they were visited by someone who felt the need for conversation was at hand. Each of the group members were offered something of their heart's desire; however, it was turned down and the body that the lich had inhabited was lost. Exiting the caverns, the group made their way towards a place that had been blocked off and fought Zuggtmoy the demon lord of fungus and rot along with the remaining heads of the fungal hydra that she was nurturing. After deafting her, Shrumbo took into his body the heart of the grove for purification so it will grow with him. The group was considered heroes of the grove and a small party ensued before the group settled down again. Upon awakening, Tinkles was on top of Gunthar and offered a way out since he was in the neighborhood and was going to see his former child of destiny. The group wandered twisted and turns of the underdark before it gave way to something a little more fey-touched. Moving deeper and deeper into the rift between dimensions, they found themselves walking into the middle of a pond where they sank in and fell out of a well on the surface. Tinkles scampered off towards the next city over; however, the group paused to take in a young halfling girl running towards them saying, "You're back!" Turning, a halfling woman scooped the little girl into her arms and stared towards the group who was staring back at her and could only mutter out, "Uh, hello?"
