Mournsteeds

Mournsteeds are haunting undead equines native to the Abyssal Gloom, created from the remains of once-proud steeds consumed by the desolation of the land. These skeletal horses are infused with necrotic energy and sustained by the magical despair of the Gloom, their hollow forms animated by grief and pain. Mournsteeds are both feared and revered, often serving as mounts for Lady Sythra’s chosen servants or wandering aimlessly across the ash-choked wasteland.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Their skeletal forms are blackened and charred, with faint blue or green flames flickering in their empty eye sockets. Tattered remnants of barding or saddlecloth sometimes cling to their frames, a grim reminder of their past lives.

Ecology and Habitats

These undead creatures seem drawn to places of intense grief or despair, where they can absorb the ambient magical energy to sustain themselves.

Behaviour

Mournsteeds are not naturally hostile but are unnervingly eerie to approach. They radiate an aura of sorrow that can unnerve even the bravest of souls. If provoked or commanded by a higher power, they become relentless and savage attackers. These creatures emit a faint aura of necrotic energy that weakens the living over time. Prolonged proximity may cause fatigue, nausea, or a creeping sense of hopelessness.
