Lament Wyrms
Lament Wyrms are serpentine creatures native to the Black Maw, embodying the despair and fear of the land. They are mid-sized predators, known for their mournful, haunting cries that echo through the territory. These creatures thrive in the twisted, shadowy environment, making them a symbol of the sorrowful anguish that permeates the region.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Lament Wyrms grow slowly, reaching lengths of 15-20 feet over several decades. Their scaled bodies are black with faint, iridescent patterns that shimmer like an oil slick in dim light. They have elongated skulls with sharp, needle-like teeth and a pair of glowing, amber-hued eyes. Long spines run along their backs, and their prehensile tails end in barbed tips, used to ensnare prey.
Behaviour
Lament Wyrms are solitary, stealthy predators that rely on ambush tactics to ensnare prey. They are drawn to fear, often stalking victims for days to induce paranoia before striking. They are fiercely territorial and will defend their chosen hunting grounds aggressively. Despite their terrifying nature, they rarely attack without provocation unless hunting. Their mournful cries are not only used to disorient prey but also to communicate with other wyrms over long distances, creating an eerie chorus that heightens the Black Maw's oppressive atmosphere.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Lament Wyrms possess heightened sensory abilities, particularly tuned to emotional energies like fear and despair. They have a keen ability to "smell" fear, tracking it like a predator follows a scent. Their sight is adapted to low light, allowing them to see in near-total darkness, and they are highly sensitive to vibrations, detecting movement across the fractured obsidian terrain.
