Mechanics & Inner Workings
When attuned to the sword, the wielder’s Strength score immediately becomes 20. The sword feeds on the wielder’s vitality, enhancing their physical capabilities to near-mythical levels, but in doing so, it begins to diminish their other attributes.
- While attuned to the Greatsword of Tyranny, the wielder's strength immediately becomes 20; however, in order to achieve this the player must diminish stats from separate attribute pools. The primary pools for reduction are charisma and wisdom. For every two taken from there, the player may remove one from a separate attribute. (Ex. A player with a 15 strength must remove two wisdom, two charisma, and then may choose to remove from intelligence, dexterity, or constitution in order to achieve the desired 20 strength). If the wielder's strength is already at 20, then they suffer a -2 to both wisdom and charisma attributes.
The sword enforces the will of Zevalia, making the wielder more susceptible to commands and orders that align with domination, control, and violence. This manifests as a weakening of the wielder’s ability to think independently, as the blade fills them with a need for subjugation and power.
- The wielder has disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws when resisting commands or compulsion to do something that furthers domination or violence. Additionally, they suffer disadvantage on Charisma saving throws against intimidation or fear effects from those in positions of authority.
The very presence of the wielder becomes a source of unrelenting fear to creatures around them. The sword draws on Zevalia’s influence, filling the air with a palpable aura of intimidation and terror. Even animals, who would otherwise remain neutral, sense the corrupting power of the sword and react accordingly.
- While attuned to the sword, animals within 30 feet of the wielder are hostile toward them. This includes wild animals, domesticated animals, and summoned creatures, all of which are driven by instinctive fear and aggression. This aura extends 50 feet while the wielder is engaged in combat or is actively threatening others.
The sword binds itself to its user during attunement. While attuned to this weapon, you do not let it out of your sight and any attack with any additional weapon is at disadvantage.
History
The Greatsword of Tyranny is a weapon of unparalleled might, granted to the chosen of Varos by Zevalia, the Dread Tyrant. When attuned, the sword shackles the wielder’s mind to Zevalia’s will, granting them strength beyond their natural limits but at the cost of their mental clarity and empathy. The blade imbues the wielder with an unshakable sense of superiority, but also slowly strips away their ability to connect with others or resist the crushing weight of tyranny.
