Aetherium Pacemaker
A delicate yet powerful arcane medical device implanted into the chest. Designed to regulate the wearer’s heartbeat using refined Aetherium, this pacemaker subtly absorbs ambient magical energy, ensuring stability and enhancing resilience against life-threatening conditions. It is an advanced fusion of medicine and arcane engineering. The pacemaker’s energy will slowly degrade over centuries, meaning it may require periodic maintenance. If exposed to an anti-magic field, it enters a semi-dormant state, causing temporary irregular heart function until exiting the field.
A small, compressed shard of refined Aetherium sits at the heart of the pacemaker, glowing softly as it regulates the heart with arcane pulses. The core absorbs residual magic in the environment and self sustains its own low-energy field. Ley line-like runes etched in silver and platinum guide magical energy through the device while tiny gold-inlaid filaments form a lattice network connecting the core to external nodes. The housing is coated with a thin layer of Halcyon Glass to prevent too much of the magical elements inside from escaping and also doubles as a barrier to resist most anti-magic effects and fields to prevent it from shutting off as well as dispel attempts. Three thin, silver tendril-like filaments extend from the device to sync with the body's nervous system and heart. These connections regulate bioelectric signals and ensure a steady and rhythmic pulse.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Due to the nature of this device, once placed inside of the wearer it is considered permanently attuned and can never be unattuned except through death.
- Heartbeat Stabilization: The pacemaker keeps the wearer’s life force steady, granting advantage on death saving throws.
- Arcane Pulse: When the wearer is reduced to 0 HP, the pacemaker sends a stabilizing pulse, revitalizing them back to 1 HP. (1/Long Rest)
- Steady Flow: The magical energy circulation prevents sudden cardiac shock. Whenever the wearer is stunned or paralyzed, they can reroll that saving throw once per short rest to recover faster.
