1544.4.12 We are several miles from the general area, and scouts have been reporting alarming amounts of corpselife. We must establish a base and begin securing the area.
1544.4.13 The first night was challenging - the corpselife is very aggressive and Our proximity has them seeking out Our camp. We shall retreat and secure a new perimeter.
1544.4.14 Camp has been established, and a perimeter palisade is being erected.
1544.4.17 There was a nomadic tribe of Hobgoblins on the outskirts of the forest. In the interest of security, they have been eliminated.
1544.4.19 The scouts have found tracks - Something has been searching the ruins recently. We do not understand how it could know of them. The areas of interest are mostly buried, and the location is a closely guarded secret. We do not understand how this could be found accidentally.
1544.4.24 The sheer amount of corpselife here is profound. So many lost and anguished souls, aching for release. We have lost a squad so far. Reinforcements have been requested.
1544.4.28 The "wisp" corpselife the soldiers speak of are difficult to manage, especially in numbers. It is an intriguing creature, very difficult to hit, and seemingly mischievous. One of the men was knocked unconscious by a lightning strike from one, and before We could dispatch it, it appeared to refresh itself by feeding on the last of his life-force. Curious.
1544.5.2 The mystery explorer seems to be knowledgeable - We have leveraged the exploration it did and located the Gate, the Nobility quarter, and the Ministry of Records. Unfortunately, none of the records survived and We still do not have accurate maps of the continent.
1544.5.15 Additional troops have arrived, and We are having them clear out the corpselife. We are behind schedule and falling farther every night that workers have to retreat to camp.
1544.6.3 The Interloper is back. One of the patrols spotted it snooping around Our encampment, but only half returned alive and the rest are missing. It is quite dangerous.
1544.6.19 The workers think they found the University but haven't been able to identify the location of the College of Engineering or the Arcane Academy yet. This is encouraging news, but progress is slow.
1544.7.2 The other half of the patrol returned tonight; but apparently the explorer is a necromancer of some skill. We suspect this may be why We are having so many issues with the "natives". Something must be done to stop the corpselife from interrupting the digs.
1544.7.16 We finally located the Necromancer. It lives several days west of here, at the edge of the jungle cliffs, and appears to have several specimens of corpselife serving it. We are not certain, but We think it may be from Goldenhome. This is a very concerning thought. We have requested assistance from the Shadow Knights, as well as additional soldiers.
1544.8.1 Signs of the Engineering school have been appearing more regularly in the excavated artifacts. Mechanical curiosities and parts of automatons have been unearthed.
1544.8.5 The reinforcements arrived with two Shadow Knights and have departed with a squad of Our soldiers for the Necromancer's hideout. They have orders to interrogate then remove the threat.
1544.8.12 The soldiers have returned, and the Necromancer has been eliminated. We lost over half of the forces sent. Apparently, there was a larger than expected amount of dangerous corpselife, and they were unable to interrogate the necromancer before having to flee. They were able to burn the body and "cut the bridge so the dead cannot escape it's cliff-side prison". They were not able to search the tower.
Acceptable, though We do wonder if the Necromance had recovered any artifacts. We may have to send another patrol later.
1544.8.30 Operations have begun in earnest. While there are still large amounts of corpselife present, the attacks have dramatically lessened. We shall continue to eliminate the corpselife.
Like the excavations at Elenath there are signs of major battles after the genocide, though Thanedell was not attacked by nearly as many Remnants. Also like Elenath, the Radiant appear to have been killed instantly by the blast and left by the ilblith to rot.
1544.9.15 Excavation continues at the gate. A Remnant was found in the gate chamber and killed several of the workers before they could flee to daylight. We filled it with Radiant purpose.
1544.10.4 The transport gate has finally been fully excavated and searched. No working Cryptoporters were located, so there is nothing left to do here. Scouts have been assigned to patrol and monitor. We are focusing on the merchant quarters as some artifacts have been located in the area.
1544.11.15 We have located another supply of firearms. The Emperor will be pleased. Now We just need to find the Engineering and Academy buildings in order to depart this pitiful reminder of Our failures.
1544.12.9 The patrols have been successful and most of the corpselife has be removed from the immediate area. Workers are able to travel freely.
1545.1.1 Glory to the Cycle, and the renewal of the Radiance.
1545.1.14 We have located the Magic Academy grounds and are looking for the main building. This is Our best opportunity to find a cryptoporter here.
1545.3.15 Several failed digs later, We have determined that the Engineering Building of interest in not with the training grounds where We found the automaton parts. We are expanding Our search.
1545.4.13 We are nearly certain the main Academy building has been located.
1545.4.25 The Academy excavation site is constantly flooding. We have directed the workers to focus on drainage, but they are unable to stay ahead of the water. We do not believe the school could be below the water-table, and this is too strong for a natural spring.
1545.4.27 The Engineering college grounds have been located. We are transferring all workers to that excavation.
1545.4.30 Hobgoblin raiders have been spotted scouting the camp.
1545.5.3 Excavations halted due to raids. Reinforcements requested. Withdrawing to camp and sending out harassment sorties.
1545.6.14 Reinforcements have arrived, and We begin Our offensive.
1545.7.3 The Hobgoblins are no longer a threat, but We suffered heavy losses. We decided to let some escape so that scouts can follow them. These savages cannot be allowed to interfere further.
1545.7.6 Excavations have resumed now that the threat is exterminated.
1545.7.14 Another Remnant has embraced the divine Radiance.
1545.7.26 The Engineering building has been located; It is at the end of a canyon further east. The entrance is Sealed, but the Tri-Key has not been located. A dispatch was sent for further instructions
1545.8.3 Anlyr says it’s familiar spotted a Dreg-Feredir circling the ruins. Between the one in Elenath that was erroneously sent to the mines and the one in Yelahn that Daroth acquired a sample from, perhaps they are not as reclusive as suspected. The Iallon expedition will have to decide on whether or not to make contact before excavating. Judging from the naiveite of the one in Yelahn, We may not even need the decoding from the sample - a few shiny baubles and some flattery may suffice.
