Aarokocra

Aarokocra are a winged humanoid species from the Island off the Southeast coast of Tar-Calion. They are limited in number, and live on the slopes of the central mountain on the island. Their government appears to be organized as a Monarchy, with a distinctly feudal orientation to their society and a heavy emphasis on class tiers. The refer to themselves as "The People".

Aarakocra Society is divided into a caste-like structure that combines standing in society with occupation.

• People's Eyrie - Government / municipal service.
• Storm Eyrie - Warriors / Army
• Sun Eyrie - Farmers
• Sand Eyrie - Fishers
• Moon Eyrie - Hunters
• Cloud Eyrie - "Eyes and Ears of the Queen" aka Spies.
• Sky Eyrie - Priestesses / Religious class

Not much else is known to the general public about their race or habits as they largely keep to themselves, are hostile to visitors, and their cities are built in largely inaccessible areas of the mountain.


Soldiers of the Sylvan Empire refer to them as "Dreg-Feredir", and in the course of exploring the Magic Academy in the Ruins of Thanedell Skreek learned that the Sylvans of the Age of Light had created artificial species referred to as "Chimera", with reduced life-spans and no ability to reproduce. Skreek suspects that his people were "Chimera" and that the "Sky-Mother" rescued them from the Sylvans.
The exact method of creating Chimera is lost to time, but the bulk of the research was conducted in the city of Iallon, with some associated research in the Thanedell Magic Academy.
