Wandering Truth
The Wandering Truth was Lady Alvana Edrys's gift for Blaecbrand Edrys for her twentieth birthday. Alvana commisioned it in secret nearly a year earlier, intending for it to be a pleasure craft Blaecbrand could use in travels around the world in her formative years. She recruited an excellent team of fireni sailors, loyal souls one and all who would lay down their lives to protect Blaecbrand, and set the best shipwrights of Toirecíud to work making the vessel.
When it became apparent that Blaecbrand would be an adventurer, Alvana changed the specifications for the Wandering Truth, outfitting it with a ballista and hurrying the building process so it would be ready sooner. She sent it two months earlier than originally anticipated to Ælmesleóht, where Blaecbrand became its captain.
The Wandering Truth is 100 feet long from stern to bows and 20 feet wide from port to starboard. It is a singularly beautiful vessel, its hull a deep brown, purple and red in a mesmerizing snakeskin pattern. A great golden snake appears to curl from stern to bow, ending in the couatl figurehead that lends the ships its name. The couatl is painted a beautiful and shimmering gold, with eyes of beautiful pearls. The ship has a forecastle, a quarterdeck, a main deck, a lower deck and a hold. The ship requires 30 crew, consisting of 24 crew members, 5 officers and 1 captain.
Main deck
The main deck has a mangonel on it, for the defense of the ship and hunting potential sea-monsters. There are also four rowboats hoisted into the air, should the Owls require to move onto an island or shore where the ship can't anchor.
The Officers' Quarters
The officers of the ship share accommodations in the front of the main deck.
Captain's Quarters
The captain's quarters were specifically made for Blaecbrand by Alvana, and have some of her loving touches. A plush double bed, very similar to the one in Blaecbrand's childhood home of the Thorn Court, stands in one corner. A beautiful, wide and practical blackwood writing desk stands against one wall, its massive form at the same time subtle and dominating the room. Small serpents, roses and thorns seem to be carved into the desk, but are only apparent to inquisitive eyes. This desk seems to be a nearly identical twin of the one Alvana herself has in her study. In addition to this there are two great shelves filled with many volumes on nautical, historical and arcane matters, along with a few explorations of interspecies eroticism. On one corner of the desk stands a vase with a beautiful red rose that doesn't seem to require water or care but retains its beauty perpetually.
War room
Next to the captain's quarters is a war room, which also doubles as a lounge to be used at the captain's leisure. The room is filled with maps of Akshus, Sceya, the Imperial Far South, Dain and most of the known world. There are also bookshelves with books on many geographic locations, ranging from tourist guides to imperial reports.
Forecastle
The forecastle is dominated by a great ballista that resembles a serpent spitting great thorns. At the head of the forecastle is the couatl figurehead.
Quarterdeck
On the quarterdeck stands the ship's wheel, which seems to be carved with tiny roses. There is also a forge on the quarterdeck, frequently used by Davor to spend some time on the ship.
Lower deck
The lower deck is accessed from a stair leading down from the main deck.
Passengers' and crew's quarters
The Wandering Truth is relatively unique in that it has dedicated rooms and areas for its crew and passengers, rather than simply using the hold to house its guests. One of the small luxuries Alvana insisted on when designing the ship, though there can easily be made space for cargo in these quarters should the need arise. The passengers' quarters are larger and more luxurious than the community bunks reserved for the crew.
Privy
Below the forecastle is the privy, where benches and chamber pots are put up to allow the crew to be about their business. These are cleaned regularly and magical wards ensure that any errant smell doesn't spread to the quarters.
Medical cabin
The Wandering Truth has one state-of-the-art medical cabin with a particularily soft bed and any equipment the modern clinician might require to aid someone injured or sick at sea, including bandages, splints, scalpels, sutures, bonesaws, some basic balms and at least one peg-leg (though this last one may be intended as a joke on Alvana's part).
Dungeon
The Wandering Truth has one surprisingly large brig, with manacles, ropes and equipment to keep prisoners (and more... willing partners) locked in bondage. There are also a range of implements that have no clear purpose in holding prisoners, but which an errant mind might find a different purpose for.
Hold
A staircase from the lower deck leads to the hull. Most of the hold is given over to cargo-space, an area kept neat, tidy and highly organized by the efforts of brother Kenichi.
Armoury
An armoury, filled with crossbows, spears and scimitars, is at the front of the hold. The door to this area is commonly locked, and both captain Blaecbrand and first mate Coelwold have keys.
