Walks-with-Cinder Report
General Summary
The Loose Cannons began their descent into the Deeptower, seeking to purge the dread Gulthias roots once and for all. They immediately ran into trouble, as a pack of ghouls, Gulthias spawn and shadow demons attacked them in the uppermost level of the Deeptower, a Crematorium for the honoured dead.
Elizabet, smelling abyssal corruption and fey influence, charged out into the darkness, hoping to distract the enemies and buy time for the mages to cast their spells. She fought alone in the darkness for a while, holding her own against vampies, ghouls and the strange shadow daemons. Kari sprinted out into the dark room, sending fire upon the ghouls and ghasts and holding the line against the monsters, fighting side-by-side with Ruth and holding them back. Ruth stabbed one of the Gulthias spawn with her magical javelin, impaling it upon the floor, while Gorm provided covering fire and threw the ghouls back with his eldritch blasts and dread aspect.
Gorm was grappled by one of the Gulthias spawn and had his life drained from him, but Ruth and Kari managed to push the spawn away and kill it.
Friedrich fought side-by-side with Goldmask, sending gouts of flame from his torch and his mechanical owl, and Goldmask and Kuzuha pushed out of the room and managed to kill the monsters surrounding Elizabet, with Goldmask's glowing sword driving away the Shadow Daemons and Kuzuha using her spell scrolls to heal Elizabet.
With the first wave of montsers defeated the party had time to investigate the top floor. They discovered that this has been used as a crematorium in ancient times. The party pressed onwards into the darkness, going down a floor. There they discovered a set of rooms containing mundane items for operating the crematorium in ancient times, and Elizabet picklocked her way into what appeared to be an ancient bedroom for the priest in charge of the tower, but which had a more recent and more bestial occupant, who had left their half-eaten boar behind. Gorm investigated another room, which appeared to be a small library, with several books missing. Studying what had been left behind, Elizabet and Friedrich concluded that whoever had gone through the library, they had been looking for maps of ancient Cathair Ombra.
Moving down from this floor, the party were confronted by the next group of enemies: two cinder hulks and two goliath firemonks under the command of a Damatír Síucraic. The Damatír was standing in some sort of oracular circle, which allowed thane Éamonh to speak with the party from his position somewhere west of the Ravå. Thane Éamonh explained that his forces had come to Teamar Ónorach with the intention of staging an attack on Ravå, and that he considered the loss of Amber Elf cultural artefacts a worthy sacrifice to attack the Empire.
The party tried to reason with him, with Ruth, Goldmask and Kari blaming him for the desecrtion of the graves of Teamar Ónorach, while Kuzuha pointed out that many innocents lived in Ravå, and that destruction of the town would only serve to bring imperial vengeance upon the Damatír. Gorm accused the thane of being a coward, while Elizabet held her tongue. Seeing that he would not sway the Loose Cannons to the righteousness of his cause, and with himself standing unswayed, the thane left the oracularium and told Tlachtga Walks-with-Cinder to kill them or send them away, but not before Kari made and ominous threat.
As the party were unwilling to back down, tensions finally snapped when Friedrich suggested to Tlachtga that her forces should stand down, at which point she charged the party, enraged by the gnome's magical trickery. Elizabet shouted that Tlachtga was a shapechanger and entered battle with her, alongside Ruth and Goldmask. Kari held the rear of the party against Goliath firemonks, while Gorm laid down supressive fire with his eldritch blasts, forcing Tlachtga's demi-giant Cinder Hulks back from his companions. Friedrich and Kuzuha both used their magic to hurt and disoerient their foes.
Elizabet and Ruth fought Tlachtga, who cast of her half-elf flesh to reveal the apex predator lurking beneath her skin. It was hard fighting, with Tlachtga shrugging off magical attacks like it was nothing. However Elizabet's silver witch hunter sword cut her deep and she took severe damage. Even as both Elizabet and Ruth were knocked down by the waves of cinders from the cinder hulks, Ruth took up Elizabet's sword and continued the fight, bloodying Tlachtga and healing Elizabet to get her back in the fray.
Elizabet cut deep wounds into Tlachgta, who fell on her knees and surrendered to the Loose Cannons. Elizabet and Ruth looked at each other, and they both knew what they had to do...
