Darkness Beneath Report

General Summary

Raising her Hunter Sword, Elizabet gave Tlachtga a choice: call of the demi-giants or die. Seeing that the alternative was to face death, Tlachtga shouted in giant: "Stand down! Attack them only if they attack me."
With the surrender of the Síucraic and her guardians, the battle was over. Elizabet sent angry Witch Hunter battle-sign to Goldmask saying that she wanted to kill Tlachtga to protect her identity as a Witch Hunter and Agnes, but Goldmask gave a stern battlesign order back: "No". Kuzuha saw the amber elf sign in the Witch Hunter battle language, and was not happy with the implications.
Furious, Elizabet stormed off. She spoke to the bark she had been given months ago, which fell insistently to the ground, as if pointing downwards.
Goldmask and Ruth tied the goliaths and Tlachtga to columns in the tower. Friedrich understood that the Cinder Hulks were bound to Tlachtga in some manner, and told her to dispell them. She spoke a word of power in Ignean, and the cinder hulks dissappeared into magical tattoos on her cheeks. The remaining party spoke with Tlachtga, and when she learned that Gorm had fought directly under the Wolf King himself against the Orcus in ancient times, a great shame fell upon her that she should fight against one so honoured. Gorm was disappointed with Tlachtga, and surprised that silver hurt her, and Tlachtga explained that silver had hurt them ever since the dreamwar and the Wolf King had abandoned his people in shameful exile. Kuzuha shamed Tlachtga for wanting to destroy a town of innocent people, and Gorm also said this was dishonorable, and they convinced her that there had to be a better way. Awed by Gorm, she vowed to speak to thane Éamonh, if she survived.
Kuzuha retrieved Elizabet and spoke to her about what had happened. After a short rest, the party descended into the lowest level of the tower. The roots had grown deep here, and a cold silence seemed to radiate out from the walls. As Gorm send Stickler in to check out the dungeon, Stickler quickly found a dozen ghould eating raw meat and fighting among themselves, as well as a table with beautiful plates, nice chairs and an opened bottle of wine, as well as Akshusian spices. Standing behind this table and protecting the dark roots of a corrupted Gulthias tree was a tall daemon of darkest night, its shoulders shrouded in a cloak of shadows, its massive form armored in a broken and rusted daemonic plate armour, with two great crab-like claws extending from its hands, and an additional vestigial set of limbs below. Where its head should be there was only darkness, and this darkness saw Stickler and attacked the party.
The combat began furiously, as the daemon marched forwards and attacked Stickler. As the ghouls approached from the other side, Kari ran out and sent a blast of fire at the horde, which was followed by a fireball from Friedrich. Ruth, Elizabet and Goldmask fought their way through the ghouls on the right-hand side, which allowed Ruth and Goldmask to make their way towards the tree and begin cutting through it with their radiant blades, while Elizabet covered them and stood her ground against the daemon. Kuzuha also sent radiant mycelium towards the tree, and held her ground against the daemon. She even earned its ire by heating its plate armor to a red-hot mess. Gorm sent eldritch blast after eldritch blast into the daemon, buying valuable time for Friedrich to take cover and cast his spells, including firing at the daemon with his gun-magic. Kari approached the daemon as it was about to attack Friedrich, and used their greater size and martial arts abilities to grapple the daemon and protect their friends form harm. As Ruth and Goldmask cut their way through the corrupted Gulthias tree, the daemon finally became vulnerable. While Kari grappled the daemon and took several brutal pincer-attacks, Elizabet was able to strike her Hunter Sword through its heart, killing it.
Before the daemon died, it dragged Gorm into its dark maw, where Gorm saw a desert of dust and bones, and the ruins of long-dead civilizations. He was confronted by the Lord of Silence, who explained that the vampires were looking for an ancient weapon, but that Gorm could claim the weapon himself if he was cunning and swift.
After the combat, Goldmask thanked the Loose Cannons for aiding him in purging the depths of the tower. He retrieved the urn of Ealin Spear-of-Song's ashes, and began making his way to the unmarred gates at the end of the room. Elizabet, after retrieving the abyss goop left behind by the daemon, found that her bark had made its way over to the gate without anyone's help, and she picked it up. As they entered the ashen forest beneath the ocean with its emerald leaves and the golden radiance from the Suntree the bark started pointing towards a specific tree within the forest. Elizabet walked over, while Goldmask prepared the burial rites for the ashes.
Goldmask called Ruth over to observe the rites, and he told her that she may never be accepted by the amber elves, but that the King in Green had clearly blessed her. Goldmask felt the call of the Suntree, and he rose and plucked one of the glowing amber leaves from the Suntree, seemingly claiming it from the horizon. Goldmask took the leaf and molded it in his hands. He explained that when the King in Green was defeated by the Eternal King at the end of the Dreamwar, Fíaglasir's spear Slea Omra was shattered. The amber elves have hunted across the Feywild for generations to find the shards, and occasionally these shards are gifted to pilgrims fighting for the King in Green. Ruth has proved herself in this battle, and so she is awarded a shard by Goldmask, which she infused into her sword to give it the power of the early dawn.
Elizabet and Kari followed the bark, as Kari wanted to keep an eye on Elizabet, and they made their way to the tree the bark pointed towards, an old and ash-covered thing. Elizabet touched it, and a light went out from the bark through her and into the tree, drawing lines of green power like the profile sketch of an amber elf woman. The woman seemed confused and asked Elizabet who she was. When the woman realized that Elizabet was a human, she asked if she was from Ravå, and if Elizabet knew of a young child named Agnes. Elizabet said that she did know a child named Agnes, but that she was a teenager now, and that she had found Agnes living in a house that had been assigned to her. She was taking care of Agnes now, making sure that she was well-fed and protected. The woman thanked Elizabet for taking care of Agnes, and said that she was a good person for taking care of a stranger's child.
The party left the Ashen Forrest and travelled back up to the floor where Tlachtga was captured. She explained that her comrade-in-arms, Herlaug Aasedottir, would not surrender to the party, and that she would prefer to not be used as a bargaining chip as she would need to be alive to speak with the thane.
The party travelled up to the temple to the east of the main island and attacked the Fire Giant and her goblin lackeys.
