Mithral

Mithral is a fairly uncommon ore that can be found deep within mines and mountains, mostly commonly along side cobalt-rich mines. Mithral itself is a silvery-blue metal that is extremely lightweight and flexible yet it is as durable as steel. As such, Mithral is commonly sought after by those who cannot normally wear heavier armor, or those who wish to wield weapons that would normally require a greater strength.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Commonly used by Bladesingers and Swashbucklers, Mithral weapons are unique in the fact that they allow for one to use their Dexterity in combat rather than their Strength, even if the weapon’s design was not made for such a purpose. In addition to this, many nobles seek Mithral chain, as it can be worn underneath clothing and provide incredible protection.   Mithral Armor typically costs an additional 800 gp and has the following properties;
  • If the armor would have a Strength requirement or impose disadvantage on Stealth checks; it no longer withholds these properties and its weight is halved
  • If the armor is a Chain Shirt or Breastplate, it can be worn underneath clothing
  • This armor is considered to be nonmagical for the purposes of enchantments, spells, or other magical effects
  Mithral Shields typically cost an additional 250 gp and have the following properties;
  • If the shield would have a Strength requirement or impose disadvantage on Stealth checks; it no longer withholds these properties and its weight is halved
  • This shield can be donned and doffed as a Use Object Interaction
  • This shield can be used as a simple melee weapon with the Thrown property with a normal range of 20 and along range of 40, dealing 1d4 bludgeoning damage on hit
  • This shield is considered to be nonmagical for the purposes of enchantments, spells, or other magical effects
  Mithral Weaponry typically costs an additional 750 gp and has the following properties;
  • If the weapon would have the Heavy property, it no longer has these properties and its weight is halved
  • If the weapon did not have the, Heavy, or Two-Handed property, it gains the Finesse and Light properties if it did not have them already
  • This weapon is considered to be nonmagical for the purposes of enchantments, spells, or other magical effects
