Erest: Deathcare Practices

History

Back before Corvus was built and the wandering tribes of the Erest valley united it was common to intern and or entomb their dead as a way of honoring and preventing reanimation. Now in the present age it is commonplace for a family or clan to have a grand mausoleum or family tomb in which all their ancestors are buried and can be visited.

Execution

A burial in Erest always follows a specific guideline or system, first the deceased is treated and arranged, second the tomb is opened and the deceased brought to it, third the inner rites begin in which the close family enters with a priest or cleric to bury the deceased and perform last rites, lastly the outer rites begin once the family leaves the tomb and it is sealed once again often leading to a reception or party in the deceased's honor.

Participants

The burial process involves a cleric or priest of the deceased's faith performing rites while the oldest member of their family recounts either a testament of the deceased's life or stories about them.

Observance

Depending on the race, a burial in Erest can take somewhere between three days to a week.
