Mhar Massif

The Mhar Massif is one of the tallest mountains in all of Golarion, standing at 31,565 feet tall. It is located in Varisia's Kodar Mountains and is also the site of Xin-Shalast, the former capital of the ancient Thassilonian realm of Shalast. Even today, a vast carving of the final Runelord of Greed, Karzoug, may still be seen on the mountain's southern side.
Legends say that Mhar, a volcano-shaped Great Old One, had been sleeping in Golarion's molten core. Sarenrae created the Dead Vault demiplane deep within the molten core to contain Rovagug. In the process, she killed Mhar. Its death throes created the Kodar Mountains, and its final spasm thrust a large part of the planet's crust upward, creating Mhar Massif. Before Earthfall, some believed Mhar was alive and imprisoned beneath the giant mountain. Karzoug capitalized on this fear and superstition by building his empire's capital city of Xin-Shalast on Mhar Massif.
