Thri-Kreen Species in Godsen | World Anvil

Thri-Kreen

Mantis-men of godsen.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Thri-Kreen have 4 arms, 2 legs, and 2 antenna. The 2 top arms have hands with only 2 claws. The bottom 2 arms each have hands with 3 claws. Each leg has a foot with 3 claws, and a talon on the back of the foot.

Genetics and Reproduction

Thri-Kreen reproduce Sexually. The females dug egg chambers and laid clutches of up to 120 eggs, before reburying and abandoning it. The eggs hatched in mid-summer; the larvae looked like miniature adult thri-kreen. They survived on instinct alone, discovering hunting and tool-making skills and how to survive, but 90% of larvae perished before reaching adulthood after only 5 or 6 years.

Growth Rate & Stages

Thri-kreen were short-lived; if they survived their harsh lives, they could be considered adults at age 9, middle-aged at 12 or 16, old by 18 to 20, and truly venerable at 25. No thri-kreen lived past 40 by natural means.

Ecology and Habitats

Thri-Kreen live best in Desert environments, often making their homes in sandy dunes and ancient astructures.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Thri-Kreen are Carnivores. They favor Blue Dragon Meat.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Thri-Kreen have a face similar to the Mantis.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most Thri-Kreen live in the Wild Lands, the deserts of Ovak, and on some islands in the Islands of Julra.

Average Intelligence

Thri-Kreen tend to be less intelligent than most humans.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Thri-Kreen can see up to 60 feet in darkness. Thri-Kreen also have a carapace that can change colors, and are used for blending into their environment, as well as the ability to not need sleep.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Thri-Kreen make no distinction between male and female names, nor do they use a surname. Common names include:   Chak-tha, Drik-chkit, Kacht-ta, Ptekwe, Tak-tha, Tik-tik, Kat’chka, Pak’cha, Pik-ik-cha, Krak-yu-cha

Courtship Ideals

Thri-Kreen will ask another to mate. The one being asked, if it is another Thri-Kreen, will usually accept, denying only if they had already mated, or if they cannot reproduce in some way.

Average Technological Level

Thri-Kreen have invented their own weapons, so exotic, that they aren't considered another type of weapon. These weapons are the Gythka, a glaive-like pole arm with 2 blades on each side of the pole, and the Chatkcha, a three-pronged throwing blade.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Thri-kreen had their own language—simply called Thri-Kreen—made up of whistles and clicks and snaps of their mandibles. Thri-kreen whose packs ranged close to humanoid civilizations often picked up a little of their languages too, usually Common, but Elven, Giant, Gnoll, Goblin, and Halfling were all possible.

Common Etiquette Rules

Thri-Kreen make strange chitering noises when making greetings.

Common Dress Code

Thri-Kreen rarely wears any clothing, instead wearing leather belts, harnesses, or just anything that can hold items, such as food.

Common Taboos

Thri-Kreen will not damage their homes any more than necessary.

History

THri-Kreen where created in 64wr, being created initially on the Islands of Julra, in the Island Chickeria. Their God, Chak-Tokat, had made them for seemingly no reason. They would hunt the things on the island, until Khenra came to the Island in 145wr. They would establish some form of trade among the Thri-Kreen, trading food for Weapons. The Thri-Kreen would eventually get off the Island in 235wr, when a ship from Ovak had come to Caudria, and then to Chickeria.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Most species are neutral to most races, similar to Lizardfolk, in that, they don't care to interact with other species as much. However, while Lizardfolk don't directly try to interact with other species, Thri-Kreen do so, but mostly to violent races, like Gnolls and Orcs, actively fighting them for causing damage to their environment. A tribe of Thri-Kreen in Ovak actively hunt Blue Dragons, recruiting other Humanoids for the soul purpose to destroying the environment changing Blue Dragons.   However, Thri-Kreen are most definitely cannibalistic hunters. After hunting creatures that damage the place that they live, they will eat their carcasses. When desperate, most tribes will hunt non-dangerous humanoids, as something most likely would had removed all the wildlife in the area.   Thri-Kreen and Lizardfolk sometimes interact with each other, usually being rivals in the wild. While neither species hates each other, their actions would tend to work against the other, either leaving one group with less food, or causing mass death for one tribe. However, neither species will try to kill the other, because neither side sees the other as genuine threats to each other.
