Lycanthropy Condition in Godsen | World Anvil

Lycanthropy

Werewolves, werebears, were-everything!

Transmission & Vectors

Lycanthrope is transferred through bite from an infected. Likewise, undergoing the ritual involving the blood of an animal, blood from a virgin, a diamond, and a piece of moon rock. All must be crushed up and drunk by the being trying to become a Lycanthrope during a full Moon.

Causes

The Disease will begin materializing on the person in attitudes. Depending on the animal, they will either become more secretive, or much more violent.

Symptoms

Symptoms include longer hair growth, curing of baldness, hair overgrowth, and growing of animalistic teeth. While going through the transformation, the victim will begin vomiting, until they become full Lycanthropes.

Treatment

Injecting powdered silver mixed with deer blood into the Lycanthrope will cure him. Likewise, casting a "Remove Curse" spell of 5th level or higher will cure the Lycanthrope.

Prognosis

After 20 years, the Lycanthrope will fully succumb to their curse, turning them into monstrous versions of their Lycan Animal. Even when in human form, they will act more like their animal, like a Werewolf becoming violently angry at strangers, or a Werebear being incredibly defensive of their children.

Prevention

Wearing Silver will keep you from turning. Likewise, if a Lycanthropy problem becomes dangerous, Priests and rangers who all follow the Destroyer of the Cursed, Fin Gaulb, would hunt Lycanthropes for towns.   Gnolls are immune to most forms of Lycanthropy. However, they are not immune to becoming a Werehyena.

Epidemiology

A town will become full of Lycanthropes because one person will turn into a Were creature, and every full moon, or when they become extremely emotional, they will begin hunting their neighbors, with survivors becoming Lycanthropes.

History

Lycanthropes where made from worshippers of the Animal Gods. Specifically, the Wolf, Bear, Hog, Tiger, and Rat. In 756wr, a Cleric, who worshipped The Wolf god Marsta, would ask for a way to be closer to his lord, who would be "blessed" with knowledge on how to become like him. He would reproduce the ritual, becoming the first Lycanthrope. It would start similarly to how the religion would do so, treating it as something only Leaders of the church can have, until leaders would turn feral, and would unconsciously spread the curse. Worshippers of other Animal gods would copy the ritual and do so with their animals, going through similar situations.   Gnolls did not go through a similar history to become Werehyenas. Instead, Yeenoghu would "reward" flinds who have killed over 100 people by giving them what they call, the "Blessing of Yeenoghu," which is just a Form of Lycanthropy specific to the Gnolls.
