Arcane Engine
The only pieces left of the Arcane Machines crafted by the gods.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The Arcane Engine's original purpose was to power constructs called the "Arcane Machine." They were designed to fight Demons, Aberrations, and other unholy monstrosities. They were destroyed by the Devils, a creature that was newly made at the time, and knew how to kill said creations. This fact made them obsolete, and had them replaced by the living empyrean. The Arcane Engine had gained another use because of this event, however.
The destruction of the Arcane Machines spread their Arcane Engines across the multiverse, meaning some landed in the material plane. Many years later, some would discover some of these Engines, and have them installed in Golems, and Warforged. Eventually, someone from the Cult of the Chaos god Gabda, would try to replace someone's heart with one of these Engines. Instead of killing them, the engine turned the person into a magical death machine. Though he had lost feeling in just about every nerve in his body, he was able to destroy the whole sect of the cult by accident, and destroyed a town. The rampage of destruction ended when his own magically enhanced body eviscerated itself, and merged into the weave. This caused many mad-scientist types to experiment with Arcane engines, finding that they could weaken the effects using demonic ichor. While they couldn't cause as much annihilation as the first man, and a prosthetic would be required to be able to live minimum as long as a Human can live, it still gave people many different powers.
Manufacturing process
The process is said to take a year, and while the exact manufacturing process is unknown, a few parts of the process is known:
- Once the Ixalt has been shaped into the cylindrical piece, the piece of the soul of the god must immediately be placed into the still-molten cylinder, and must be frozen as quickly as possible. Not doing it fast enough causes too much of the soul to split and leave, making the engine too weak for use.
- The Naga blood must be lathered onto the platinum before being shaped into seals, to keep it nice and lubricated so that the engine can spin at the correct speed. The heart must then be placed inside the cylinder to allow constant lubrication, as Naga hearts do not pump blood, but produce it.
- A rune must be placed on the Engine, so that the arcane machine it powers can be controlled. When the Machine is destroyed, the Engine loses it's rune.
- You must remove an arm or a leg. Once removed, a specially formatted prosthetic in order to store some of the Arcane Engine's energy, as so that the body isn't wrecked.
- You must then carefully open the chest, and remove the ribs protecting the heart. These ribs can cause massive amounts of damage to the body while the Arcane Engine spins. Either way, the sheer force of the Arcane engine, as well as it's augmentations to the body, can keep the person protected.
- Replace the heart with the Arcane Engine infused with demonic ichor. This must be done fast, as while the engine will attempt to mimic the heart, the patient must be alive for it to functionally replace the heart, and massive amounts of blood loss can cause worse-than-death situations.
- Once placed where the heart was, wait for the Arcane engine to form a shell of blood. Once the shell is formed, the body should repair itself. Once fully repaired, and the Prosthetic is full of energy, attack the patient's face, usually with a slap. If the unconscious body defends itself by slapping your hand away, the process is complete.
Significance
These engines powered the Arcane machines, constructs that participated in the Great Demon War, fighting on the side of the gods. They were all destroyed, with their engines where scattered around the multiverse.
