Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most Aaracockra live in the mountains of Ovak, with a few living in the Forests of Uneror, and an even smaller, unlucky few who have been trapped in the Underdark. However, the most Aaracockra in the multiverse are found in the Elemental Plane of Air.

Average Intelligence

Aaracockra tend to be as intelligent as most Humans.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Aaracockra, no matter decent, tend to use Hawks and Eagles for hunting and tracking. Owl Aaracockra tend to use Owls more than Hawks.   Although very rare, sometimes an Aaracockra tribe may have a Giant Eagle, Hawk, or Owl as a hunting animal.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

As with much of their speech, aarakocra names include clicks, trills, and whistles to the point that other peoples have a difficult time pronouncing them. Typically, a name has two to four syllables with the sounds acting as connectors. When interacting with other races, aarakocra may use nicknames gained from people they meet or shortened forms of their full names.   An aarakocra of either gender may have one or two of these short names: Aera, Aial, Aur, Deekek, Errk, Heehk, Ikki, Kleeck, Oorr, Ouss, Quaf, Quierk, Salleek, Urreek, or Zeed.

Beauty Ideals

Aaracockra with long beaks, and seek other Aaracockra with large chests. For males, it's females with larger breasts, while for Females, it's males with large pectoral muscles. The Aaracockra Plumage must also be clean, seeing dirty Plumage as a form of Laziness, and no Aaracockra would want to love a lazy Aaracockra.

Gender Ideals

In most Aaracockra Societies, Males are leaders and warriors, while Females are Hunters and Gatherers. They do not care who becomes Scholars, Priests, and Blacksmith's.

Courtship Ideals

To attempt to Court a mate, most Aaracockra will whistle a tune of love. Depending on how well they do, they will either succeed in obtaining the love of another, or fail, which leads the Aaracockra in a depression for 10 years, which is usually at the end of their lives.

Relationship Ideals

Aaracockra enter relationships to satisfy their desire to fall in love, and will care for and stay with their children, even if the parents do not fall in love with each other anymore.

Average Technological Level

Aaracockra make spears, halberds, Pikes, and Javelins, as well as Bows, Crossbows, and Flings.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Auran, the language of Air. Aaracockra tribes that interact with other species tends to learn their Language, easily picking up Common, and having incredible difficulty learning other Primordial Languages, like Terran, Ingnan, or Aquan.

Common Etiquette Rules

Aaracockra will greet each other by grabbing each other hands, and saying "Greetings friend, I am [Name]," in any language they know, and will end it with a touching of the Knuckles. Goodbyes are sudden, with the Aaracockra just leaving when they feel that they should leave. Many people have considered Aaracockra rude because of this.

Common Dress Code

Aaracockra must wear shirts and Pants. These clothes are usually aerodynamic enough for them to be able to fly without much resistance.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Aaracockra homes look more like Giant bird nests than actual villages. They tend to live in Villages numbering from 30-50 Aaracockra, and tend to build their nests in either many trees, on on mountain tops, or, uncommonly, on the ground.   This does not apply to Aaracockra that live in the Elemental Plane of Air, as the city was built by the gods to protect their artifacts. These buildings were made of solidified clouds.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Aaracockra have similar mannerisms to regular Birds. Because of this, some Bird mannerisms would become apart of their Culture. One prominent piece of this is that they do not understand Ownership. To them, only gods own anything, because they own everything, and that we as mortals couldn't own anything, because the gods made everything. It's common for Aaracockra in cities to grab food found at food stalls without paying, only paying after a lengthy explanation about why they need to pay them, and them leaving without understanding what they were told.

Common Taboos

Aaracockra are incredibly Claustrophobic. While a Tortle will get uncomfortable after a few hours in a cave, most Aaracockra will outright refuse to enter a Cave, fearing the fact that they cannot and will not be free of the earth, being trapped on the ground like their Kenku brothers.

History

Aaracockra where made by the Dukes of Wind, which is a set of 5 different Gods of the Air, in 1500cr. They were hastily created to fight off an Elemental evil, called Ogremoch, who had been invading the Elemental plane of Air, to destroy the creatures of air. They would fight off the Gargoyle legions, ending the fight in 1000cr. The Aaracockra would continue to defend their Gods, and the God's powerful artifacts. When the Kenku had planned to steal several artifacts, one of which allowed the flying city of the Elemental Plane of air, Vistaul, to not collapse into dust, it was discovered that one of the artifacts had been stolen, replaced with a stone replica. This object was called "The Rod of Law," now called "The Rod of 7 parts," as it was stolen by an evil Earth Archon, broken into several pieces, and scattered among the lower planes of Hell, the Abyss, Carceri, and Gehenna, in Ogremoch's lair, and somewhere on the Prime Material Plane.   As of now, in 2367wr, 3 of the 7 pieces have been recovered. The one in Hell was given back when a fiend found it, requiring the souls of 50 beings, all of which where from Aaracockra. One in Gehenna was found by a loose Yugoloth, who had threatened to shatter it, only to be killed, as he had no way to break the piece. And, Finally, the one in Carceri had been found by a Human who had been banished to the plane, and used its power to survive, and eventually escape. He would return it to the Aaracockra, as it would remind him of his imprisonment. As of now, no one knows where in the Abyss one of the pieces are, at least one of the rod pieces are found in the Hole to the Bottom of the world in the Material plane, and at least one Ogremoch's lair. Where the final Piece is completely unknown.   Aaracockra would begin hunting the Rod of Seven Pieces, as they believed it was their duty for the gods to find and rebuild the Rod. They would begin coming to the Material Plane in 70wr, when they found that one was located on the plane. After some questioning, they would learn that it is located in the Dungeon called "The Hole" by the locals. They would begin moving around in different continents, seeking someone to assist them in getting to the Rod. The Aaracockra that move to different areas would also begin looking different with each generation. Those that lived in Ovak would continue looking like their Eagle selves. The ones in the Elven forests would begin to look much more Hawk-Like. Those that lived on Islands would look more Parrot-like.   In 1576wr, a group of Aaracockra would be captured by durgar, and would be trapped in the Underdark. These Aaracockra would look more like Owls.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Most people do not even know of the Aaracockra, as most people believe they are either some bird mutated by magic, or in some villages cases, messengers of the Gods. Because of this most Races, including Monstrous Races, are fairly neutral to Aaracockra.   Cloud Giants hate Aaracockra, usually for their constant interactions between the two races. Gargoyles also hate Aaracockra, due to the war between Ogremoch and all of the Plane of Air.

Aaracockra Adventurers:   Most Aaracockra live in solitude, not wanting to go out and adventure far away from home. Because of this, there are usually only 2 reasons for an Aaracockra to adventure. The first reason is the rod of seven pieces, as they feel it's their Duty to find and rebuild it to it's former glory, some Aaracockra will become adventurers just to go and find it. The other reason is that Evil Earth Elementals are out and about, and threaten the worlds. Some Aaracockra will hunt these elementals, joining cults of good-aligned air gods to complete this task.   Most other reasons are of vengeance, stopping a threat to their people, or to stop a cataclysm. It's almost never because they want Glory or wealth, since they don't care about either.
