The Stewards as Guardians of the Metaphysical Balance
The Stewards are celestial entities tasked with ensuring the metaphysical balance of Alathor. They oversee both the physical and spiritual realms, though their powers and essence are diminishing over time due to the limitations of their stones.
Metaphysical Stones:
Each Steward wields a stone of immense power, given to them by the Tinkerer. These stones act as independent sources of Life Force, but they are not connected to the Sun or the Moon Gate. As such, the Stewards are separate from the natural flow of energy on Alathor and have a limited amount of celestial energy they are able to pull from over the course of their very, very long lifetimes. The more power they use, the faster their celestial energy is depleted.Succession of the Stones:
The Stewards must pass their stones to mortal successors to "recharge them." Because a Steward is cut-off from the flow of energy that runs through Alathor, the ston This succession is a metaphysical event where the new bearer takes on the memories and powers of their predecessors, gaining not just physical strength but also the metaphysical responsibility of maintaining balance. The successor is usually picked and given years of training and observance before the succession, as it can be extremely traumatic.Loss of Power:
With each transfer of power, the stone’s capacity diminishes. This gradual weakening of the Stewards represents a metaphysical law of entropy: over time, even the mightiest celestial beings lose their power, echoing the eventual return of all things to the void of the Devourer.
