General History

Crafted by the combined efforts of Stewards Huichi and Isoko, the Pukta emerged from the Prime with traits reflecting intelligence, agility, and a deep connection to metals and minerals. Known colloquially as "Smolfolk," they typically inhabit the region of Helvania, developing a unique, technocratic society marked by precise analytical thought, industriousness, and careful resource management. Their families function both as clans and corporate entities, fostering a culture of innovation and ingenuity alongside tightly-knit communal bonds.

Characteristics

The smallest of Alathor's races, the Pukta exhibit compact, lithe physiques and heightened agility. They are naturally inventive, skilled in intricate tasks requiring finesse and detail. Their hands, delicate yet strong, are well-suited to their intricate craftwork and technological innovations.

Cultural Traits

Pukta culture places high value on intellectual precision and practical ingenuity. They approach problems analytically and methodically, rarely wasting resources. Their meticulous attention to detail is reflected in their magitech creations, which are renowned for their elegant functionality.

Roles in Alathor

Precise Fingers: You have proficiency in Sleight of Hand, reflecting your deftness and precision. Technological Savant: You gain proficiency with tinker’s tools. Additionally, you can create small devices and gadgets during a long rest. These devices mimic the effects of cantrips or simple mechanical functions (e.g., a small light source, a noise maker, etc.). You can either create an amount of these equal to your level + your intelligence modifier. Mechanical Expertise: Once per long rest, you can use your knowledge of machinery to disassemble and reassemble a mechanical device. This process takes one hour, during which you can either disable the device, learn its inner workings, or repair it if it is broken. Additionally, you have advantage on checks made to understand or reverse-engineer mechanical and magical devices.
Pukta are distinctively compact and agile, typically standing no taller than 5 feet. Their slight, lithe builds belie extraordinary physical dexterity and precision. Their skin tones range from porcelain-like ivory to muted metallic hues, such as soft silver, subtle bronze, or pale brass, often shimmering faintly like polished metal. Angular, finely-structured facial features—high cheekbones, sharp chins, and pointed noses—accentuate their clever, inquisitive expressions. Vivid, brightly colored eyes dominate their expressive faces, commonly emerald green, sapphire blue, or metallic amber. Fine, dense hair, styled elaborately or whimsically, complements their inventive and playful nature, ranging from rich black and coppery red to platinum silver or eccentric metallic shades. Prominent pointed or subtly elongated ears, expressive and proportionately large, enhance their naturally observant appearance   The Pukta have a highly structured and hierarchical society, deeply rooted in the traditions of their noble families. These families are large and extended, typically living in grand, well-guarded residences. The family is the central unit of society, and each member has a specific role and responsibility. The family is usually headed by a patriarch or matriarch, although some families also have councils or boards that make decisions collectively. Within the family, there is a strict hierarchy based on contributions to the family's wealth and power. Members involved in research and development are highly esteemed, as their innovations drive the family's success and influence.   Marriage among the Pukta is seen as a strategic alliance rather than a romantic union. Partners are chosen based on their potential to bring wealth and power to the family. Courtship involves extensive interviews, observations, and negotiations. Subterfuge and espionage are common tactics in securing advantageous marriages. The ideal partner is someone with substantial assets or innovative ideas. Infidelity is not considered a betrayal due to the lack of marital duty related to love or attraction, but loyalty in social, business, and political affairs is paramount.   The Pukta value honor and privacy above all else. Disrespect, dishonor, or public betrayal can lead to severe consequences, including imprisonment or death. Noble families rarely leave their compounds without wearing masks to hide their identities and display their family affiliation. These masks are sacred, and any violation of the mask code is met with extreme punishment.   The Pukta are at the forefront of Helvania's technological advancements. They excel in creating devices and chemical compounds that mimic the effects of magic. Their technology is often designed to be as impressive and showy as it is functional. This blend of practicality and spectacle reflects their cultural emphasis on appearance and status. Their innovations include magi-tech-powered machinery, advanced prosthetics, and alchemical potions that provide various enhancements. The Pukta's economy relies heavily on their technological and alchemical industries. They produce a wide range of goods, from luxury items to practical devices. Their trade networks are extensive, and they export their products to other nations in Alathor. Their caravans and merchant fleets are well-protected, often by family members who see the defense of their trade routes as a matter of personal honor.   In modern times, while most Pukta remain within the borders of Helvania, some venture out as explorers, traders, and diplomats. A Pukta engineer might work tirelessly in a hidden workshop, developing revolutionary technologies that could change the world. A Pukta diplomat could navigate the treacherous waters of international politics, using their keen intellect and sharp wit to secure alliances and trade agreements. Meanwhile, a Pukta rogue might operate in the shadows, gathering information and performing covert missions for their family's benefit.   The Pukta's resilience, ingenuity, and adaptability allow them to thrive in numerous roles, whether as innovators, leaders, or covert operatives. Their deep-rooted traditions and cultural heritage provide a rich backdrop for players to explore, making Pukta characters a compelling and dynamic choice for any adventure.
