Harmonious Way

The Harmonious Way is the original and more peaceful branch of the Serpent's Path, developed as the Nakhasi Empire stabilized. It emphasizes balance, renewal, and the cyclical nature of existence. At its heart lies the belief that all things, whether individuals, societies, or empires, must undergo periods of growth, transformation, and renewal, much like the serpent shedding its skin. This philosophy teaches that stagnation is dangerous, and in order to achieve harmony with the world, one must embrace change as a natural and necessary part of life.

Mythology & Lore

The Harmonious Way teaches that life mirrors the serpent’s ability to shed its skin and renew itself. There are no deities to be worshipped, only the forces of nature and life’s cycles, which must be embraced for harmony. Central to their beliefs is the myth of Mok Tun, who, though revered for his immortality and wisdom, is not seen as divine but as a powerful figure who embodied the ideal of balance between strength and wisdom. Mok Tun’s peaceful passing, after growing weary of eternal life, symbolizes the natural order of death and renewal.

Divine Origins

The Harmonious Way arose during the height of the Nakhasi Empire, when scholars and nobles began to reflect on the empire’s purpose and destiny. As the empire became stable, its leaders turned to philosophy, leading to the creation of the Harmonious Way, a belief in cyclical growth and renewal. The system was further shaped by Mok Tun’s teachings, though he discouraged his own deification.

Cosmological Views

In the Harmonious Way, the universe is seen as a self-regulating, cyclical system, much like the serpent’s shedding of its skin. There are no creator gods or divine forces in this cosmology, only the ever-present forces of growth, decay, and rebirth. The world and its inhabitants are part of an eternal cycle that cannot be resisted, only embraced. Each individual, society, and empire must undergo this cycle, shedding what is old and no longer useful to grow stronger.

Tenets of Faith

  • Embrace Change: Followers must accept that change and transformation are necessary parts of life.
  • Balance and Harmony: The individual and society must strive for harmony, not by resisting the natural cycles but by flowing with them.
  • Uplift Others for the Greater Good: Charity and assistance to others are viewed as practical ways to improve the whole. By helping others grow, you raise the overall strength of society, which benefits everyone.
  • Self-Improvement: Continuous personal growth is essential, mirroring the shedding of the serpent’s skin.

Ethics

The ethics of the Harmonious Way focus on balance and fairness. Charity and generosity are encouraged, but not out of pure selflessness—they are acts of mutual benefit. Uplifting the weak improves society as a whole, and in turn, strengthens the powerful. Ethical behavior means acting in a way that contributes to the harmonious growth of society, not allowing one’s personal desires to upset the natural order.

Priesthood

The Serpent-Speakers serve as guides within this sect, but they are more philosophers and teachers than priests. They do not claim divine authority, but they interpret the cycles of life and provide wisdom on how individuals and communities can align themselves with these natural forces. Their role is to help people understand when to let go and embrace transformation.
