Emlithis, the Unfolding Gate
Aliases: The Breachmother, The Thousand Mouths, The Endless Invitation Status: Active; Influence Expanding Across Weak Points in Reality Domain: Dimensional Rending, Portal Creation, Boundary Corruption Location of Last Known Activity: The Rift-Corridors between the Dreaming and the Physical WorldOf all the dread names among the Harbingers, none embodies the violation of space, mind, and soul more profoundly than Emlithis, the Unfolding Gate. Where others conquer or consume, Emlithis simply opens—tearing the seams of existence apart, inviting chaos from beyond.
Origins and the First Breach
Emlithis did not emerge from a traditional universe, but rather from a collapsing web of overlapping realities—a realm where dimensions bled into one another until no true borders remained. Born amidst the roiling chaos of breached worlds, Emlithis came into being already fragmented, existing in many places at once and none completely. When the Harbingers came to Alathor, it was Emlithis who sought not merely to corrupt life, but to corrupt existence itself—to twist the world into a corridor through which horrors yet unknown could pour. The Thousand Mouths
Emlithis’s nature is an eternal act of opening: Rendspace Manipulation: She can tear open reality’s very fabric, creating unstable portals between dimensions, dreams, and oblivions. The Thousand Mouths: Each breach spawns a "mouth"—an unstable orifice that hungers for matter, energy, or soulstuff, drawing it into realms best left unnamed. The Breachmother’s Choir: Those who stare too long into her gates become singing vessels, their minds unraveling into endless invitations for more breaches to form. Her goal is not to destroy Alathor directly—but to make it a wound that can never heal, bleeding into infinite elsewhere.Legends and Terrible Remnants
Tales of Emlithis’s influence are whispered by the wary and the wise: The Crying Stones: In Kataria’s deepest ruins, there are rocks that weep blood and whisper languages no mortal tongue ever spoke—silent witnesses to breaches that once tore through their stones. The Hollowed Fields: In Yeoria’s old war grounds, there are patches of land where crops will not grow, and shadows stretch the wrong way—places where reality itself was once bitten by Emlithis’s mouths. The Festival of Closed Eyes: In Helvania, survivors of magi-tech accidents involving unstable Prism-Cores hold a solemn day of blindness, honoring those consumed by unseen rifts.Current Status
Emlithis remains disturbingly active. Though she was never fully defeated, the Stewards and their mortal allies forced her presence deeper into the rift-corridors between the Dreaming and Alathor. Yet every misuse of magi-tech, every instability in the Prism-Fiber networks, every Dreaming incursion threatens to open new tears. Her influence grows wherever reality thins, and in such places, people vanish—sometimes leaving behind only a lingering song, a flickering shadow, or a doorway that leads to nowhere sane. It is said that if enough of her mouths open at once, Alathor will cease to be a world... and become a corridor.
