Valzard Dominion

Last remaining bastion of known civilization independent of the Concordant Federation, built upon the ruins of a long extinct empire of giants, the Valzard Dominion commands its subservient territories with an iron grip. The Dominion came to power through the conquest of lesser tribes by a single warband, whose leaders claimed to be servants of a great god whose power could supposedly rival that of the nine Ascendant gods.

Territories

The farthest northwestern regions of Weirwalden beyond the Azurial Sea fall under the Dominion's rule. An uncompromising military culture and anti-eastern propaganda permeates every aspect of life in the Dominion territories, and only a comparatively small percentage of Dominion natives attempt to immigrate to the less stringent Concordant Federation.

Military

The entirety of the Valzard Dominion adheres to a strong code of honorable warrior conduct, placing great emphasis on advancements of rank through acts of glory. This rigid code is further upheld by a strict social hierarchy, in which the only way hobgoblins of the lower castes may advance their stature is by joining the legions and gaining glory through service to the Dominion. Their most elite warriors, the Iron Shadows, are a seemingly mythical fighting force whispered of even within the interior of the Concordant Federation.

Religion

Worship of the Dominion's singular god - known as the Sundered King - is strictly enforced by the state. Religious dissidents are often forced to flee the Dominion under threat of exposure, arrest, and rehabilitation by members of the Sundered Priesthood. The Concordant Federation knows little of this supposed hobgoblin deity, and even the Ascendant Gods seem unclear on whether or not the Sundered King is merely a cultural fabrication, or another being of divine power.

Foreign Relations

The Valzard Dominion has long since stood in opposition to the Concordant Federation, their relations having been poisoned from the start due to the violent hobgoblin oppression of halflings, which led to the mass exodus of halfling peoples from the northwest. Border skirmishes between hobgoblin military squads and goliaths in the far north have not bettered their relations, and only in recent decades, with the long-standing cessation of direct hostilities, have negotiations been opened between the two superpowers.
