Gods' Call

When the Creator Gods gave substance and life to the world of Weirwalden, they did not complete their work. Instead, chaotic elemental energy infested the cracks in the unfinished world, and as the sapient races grew, so did the impending outbreak of these primordial forces.   The continued survival of the world is owed instead to the Ascendant Gods - once mortal, now divine, having bonded with the world's primordial energy sources.   For as long as modern history can recount, the nine Ascendant Gods have protected Weirwalden and its people. They have walked among mortals, helped build cities and temples and sanctuaries, and have always answered the prayers of their people.   But something has changed.   A call has gone out, whispered of in temples and passed on through rumor, a mass order from the gods Ascendant to their followers; prepare yourselves.   It has been two decades since the order was given. The voices of the gods, though still heard, are subdued, and their presence on the Material Plane limited. Their followers continue their work, and the common folk gossip in wonderment and curiosity at the meaning of the call of the gods.   The world has been preparing, despite rising geopolitical tensions and unrest in the more magical parts of the world.   The people of Weirwalden are waiting.   Waiting for the Gods' Call.   -   Worldbuilding for a future Dungeons and Dragons campaign, to be run by myself and endured by my lovely friends.
