Tokjan Settlement in Godai | World Anvil

Tokjan

The town of Tokjan on the east coast of the Crane Imperium, is a small port town in comparison to the Ports on the southern coast of the Imperium. It is an old town, and controlled by the Family Nobuatsu. Majority of docks are used by small fisher boats, along with a small number of traders that use it as their point of contact within the Imperium. The town as a small guard pay for and run by the Nobuatsu family that keep the laws of the Crane Throne, and any additional requirements that their Lord wants to be followed.

Districts

The Districts of Tokjan, each have they own feel, work and look to them.

Minato

The docks and the sheets closet to them, this is definitely the roughest part of town, the bars all have strongmen at the doorways to deal with ruly drunks and anyone that gets a little too handy with the barmaids. There are many gambling dens, along with whore houses, found within easy reach of the wharfs where the traders make land for the first time in many weeks for some of them.

Fojino

The warehouses, craftshalls, and independent traders can be found within this DIstrict, from woodworkers, to net makers to blacksmiths making the nessecary metal parts of the major industry of the town.

Kajacho

The oldest part of the town with the narrow streets sandwiched between 4 other districts, this is the home of many fishing families, while the husbands go out to work, the women stay at home and look after the children and homes, but if you took the wrong turn you may only come out lighter of your purse if not worst.

Hinode Gao

The Nobles Quarter, the largest single part being that of the Nobuatsu Estate, but many other families have estates or well maintain and large townhouses.

Nezumicho

The slighty more upclass district of homes which the better off sailors, craftsmen and captains make they home. The streets here are wider and bright than within the Kajacho District and is seen as safer. But one of the main fight

Nishicho

Again mostly a district of homes, but there is a number of well known scholarly organisations based within it, The Library of the Steel Heart, which is the headquarters of the Steel Heart MOnks, a small sect of knowledge seekers, and a small mage school, the Academy of Akadi.

Minami Gao

The District for the tourists, while visitors do go other places in the town, everything they want is avaiable in this district, from inns and hotels, to bars, gambling den, whore houses and fighting pits, including the most famous in the city The Furnace. This is the place to be at and been seen at.

Government

Like all the cities of the Crane Imperium, a Noble house rules the city and surrounding area, in the case of Tokjan the Noble House of Nobuatsu, who was given the seat by the Crane Throne, and can only be taken away by the Throne. But while the house is supposely fully in control of their terrorities as long a the follow the rules of the Throne, most towns have a number of shadowry guilds and organisations hidden in the dark corners.   Tokjan allows for Prostitution, gambling and either blood sports, as long as everyone involved consents, and slaves are not allowed to be used in such vices and sports, everyone involved in such trades is register and checked by officals to reduce risks to everyone involved. These aren't illegal in the Imperium but are very much down to individual noble houses if they allowed in their holdings.

Defences

Majority of the city is surrounded by a 25 foot stone wall, with multiple towers dotted along its length. Along the last side is the harbor and coastline cliffs with a natural defense against attack agains the sea.

Industry & Trade

Fishing is the main industry of Tokjan, along with the support mechanisms that are required for that, net making, lumberyards, boat / ship building. Along with the Vice side of the town, like prostitution, gambling and blood sports, which brings in a large amount of tourists for the larger fights and the gambling dens do well.

Infrastructure

The streets of Trokjan are cobblestone and wide enough to allow carts to transport goods from the docks to other areas of the town with easy. The town like all other major holdings in the Imperium have well maintained and built sewer systems dug underground and looked after. There is a number of small shipyards in the docks or nearby up the coast, that produce solid fishing boats and coastline goods transport ships, that are used to transport materials and goods around the coastlines of the Imperium.

Guilds and Factions

The rumours about smuggling guild which have members of the port authorithies in they pocket. As well as the every present Ka'lessi guild which runs all thievery within the cities of the Imperium.
