Deum (Guardian Leviathan)

Simply the sneak peak to the real monster below...

Gargantuan creatures that lurk specific waters within the world. The most that you can hope for is that you turn around and sail away in time before they catch interest. Nobody has lived long enough to see what lays beyond the long tendrils that slam ships into bits and pieces.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Asexual reproducers that produce five children at a time as eggs at the bottom of the ocean. The closer they are to laying eggs, they lower they drift. They will lay their eggs and then leave, forcing their children to fend for themselves.

Growth Rate & Stages

If they manage to survive on their own, a deum will take 25 years to reach max size. It will start with larger fins and stubby tentacles, but as they grow they will shape to their size in various ways.

Ecology and Habitats

The deums are highly dependent on the environment around it. They cannot survive in shallow waters and thrive in the dark depths, only surfacing to thrash any ships that dare draw near.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They have a way of filter-feeding in the waters around them that's capable of sustaining their massive size. Despite that, they enjoy a good ship or two as prey for a snack. If a ship has entered its territory, it will surface to feast. If for some reason it has trouble, it will call for help from its friends.
