Miniature 4x Scope
Miniature 4x Scope
Model Description
The GoatGuns Miniature 4x Scope appears to be modeled off the Trijicon TA01NSN 4x32 ACOG Scope. It is a painted die cast metal with glass lenses and does not require tools to install.
History of the Advanced Combat Optical Gunsite (ACOG)
Inspired by the moving prism mechanism found in binoculars, Glyn Bindon had an idea for a more compact scope despite experts telling him it would never work. Not only did the prototype not have the failures he was warned about, but it was also lighter and more compact than anything on the market. He continued to improve on the design making it lighter and stronger, being patented on February 21st, 1989. This same year Trijicon got the contract to sell ACOG scopes to the US military.
The original model was designed for use with the M16 and M4 Carbine rifles, it did not use any batteries, instead the reticle used an internal phosphor illumination caused by the radioactive decay of Tritium. Many variations were made over the years, they may use battery or fiber optics to illuminate the reticle, they also offer a variety of sizes and magnifications as well as mounting options. In 2017 Trijicon sold their one millionth ACOG 4x32.
ACOGs are so effective in 2004 the US Marine Corp finally got outfitted with them in the battle of Fallujah Iraq. When it was over the Marines were accused of war crimes due to the number of combatants that were shot in the head, the Iraqi's were accusing the Marines of executing soldiers. Investigations had shown that the Marines were doing nothing wrong, it was just the accuracy of the ACOG scope that allowed the soldiers to get such an impressive number of head shots.
