Hero Cults
Humans of the northern continent worshiped immortal heroes who lived among their subjects. Though frequently the children of other greater gods, heroism was a trait earned not assumed by chance of birth. Even the most insignificant beggar could become a hero god through great and inspiring deeds, and heroes who failed to perform heroic acts would lose their immortality.
The hero gods have passed from the earth, falling to the undead plague unleashed on the northern humans by the First Gnosis. Any hero who took the Voice's offer during the plague became a titanic shadow monster known as a nightshade.
