Rotana

Rotana Nabris (a.k.a. Dark Witch)

Rotana is from an exiled family known as Nabris. She is currently using the Yiga with the help of Vahnon. She is searching for the colossus and the lost Gerudo gods.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Rotana was born to the Nabris family, a family that was once full of religious leaders for the Gerudo gods and was tasked with retaining their culture, spells, history, and rituals. However, the family was exiled after the Gerudo gave those gods up. Rotana has spent her life researching the ancient ruins and trying to recover the Gerudo's lost culture.   When Rotana was a child, her family found Vahnon's temple and finally made it to his seal within. They conducted an ancient ritual over several days to break the hundreds of Sheikah sealing talismans. However, on the day they broke the seal, a group of Sheikah lead by Rola found them. All of Rotana's family was killed, but Vahnon managed to save her.   Just before Rotana fled, her mother's dying will was given to Rotana. She was given an heirloom, the stone mask, and asked to continue to unearth the truths that Hyrule buried in Gerudo's sands, just as her family has done for generations. In doing so, her mother promised that Nabris may one day see the Gerudo truly free - free from all the lies and oppression.   Once safe, Vahnon continued to raise Rotana. They took on a nomadic lifestyle, traveling the desert from ruin to ruin. Vahnon taught Vile much of what he knew from the past, but unfortunately, this did not include all the spells and rituals her family would have passed down to her. He only knew of a few scraps--the few bits from Shinzo's lecturers. In fact, Vahnon barely even knew the desert, having lived most of his life in the temple dedicated to him.   When Rotana learned of the stories of Ganondorf, she saw an opportunity. She could use Vahnon and claim him as a Gerudo Demon King, allowing her to make a puppet ruler over the Yiga. This would allow her access to the ancient Gerudo Ruins they hid in while also offering her protection. She brought Vahnon to the Yiga, and they fell for her deception, allowing her and Vahnon to take power over them.   Rotana would like to see the Gerudo fight against Hyrule's culture. Having been surrounded by Yiga, who are Gannon's followers, she has been informed that Hylia is dead and not reincarnating as Hyrule claims, furthering her anger as the gerudo gods were replaced by this dead god. However, Rotana doesn't fully believe that she can convince the gerudo, so instead, she has decided to do what she can to gain the knowledge she should have learned from her family and to try to restore the protection of the old gods. As such, she is looking for the Colossus, a world wonder that supposedly contained many arcane and advanced technologies. If she found it, she could perhaps convince the Gerudo that they had a thriving world that was forcibly cut by Hyrule.   After gaining access to the Highlands by joining with the Yiga, Rotana has found Vile's seal in a closed off section of the Highlands. Rotana unsealed Vile and helped her regain some strength. Rotana then requested that Vile join the adventurer's guild, both to infiltrate it for intel and to allow Vile a chance to get stronger and learn of modern day. Vile did just that, and through her adventuring, met the party.   Rotana has a group of Gerudo who are willing to be pirates for pay being trained in Faron. She is using them to keep tabs on the happenings in the ocean, since the Yiga did not cover that area like they had the rest of Hyrule. However, Gohtan is doing a poor job of training them, so Rotana has asked Vile to look into his situation and possibly to have her take over the training.   Rotana has Gordon, the Sheikah sage of Mechanics, being held hostage, forcing him to help her find the Colossus (However, much force isn't being applied as that is also what he was doing before being caught by Rotana).

Education

Rotana was taught by Vahnon. He taught her gentleness, but Rotana's heart had hardened away from any kind of gentleness or mercy the day her parents died.   Vahnon taught Rotana the legend of how the Gerudo lost their ability to produce sons. According to him, "A demons met a man and his family lost in the desert. They had run out of food and water and were going to die without help. The demon approached the man and offered to help him so long as they'd make a contract. The man said he would agree to anything so long as he could live to see another day. The demon decided then that he would save them in exchange for his sons, of which the man had two. The sons dropped dead upon the creation of the contract and the rest of the family was brought safely to an oasis. However, what the man didn't realize was that the contract extended to his future sons and grandsons as well. Any male that would have been conceived would have their soul whisked away by the demon before a vessel--that is to say, a child--could be formed. As a demon, I can tell you this is a truly diabolical contract. The only loophole in this would be in the case of reincarnation. If a demon or fae or whatever was reincarnated among the family, it was not really a true descendant, and so would be exempt. Such is how the Demon Gerudo King came to be. By the way, I have no idea what demon made that contract, but lets never go looking for him, alright?"

Employment

Rotana is a thief.

Failures & Embarrassments

Rotana was caught and nearly imprisoned once. She had snuck into Gerudo city and broken into the home of a researcher there. She wanted read exactly what it was the Gerudo people knew of the desert, but she was caught trying to steal books. After being questioned by the guards, someone realized she must be a Nabris. As Rotana was being dragged away, some Yiga created a distraction allowing her to get away.

Mental Trauma

Her family was executed while performing a ritual in the Gentleness Temple by the Sheikah (One of which was Rola ). The sheikah were investigating Yiga activity, but found her and her family instead. Being wanted people caught in a forbidden ritual related to Vahnon, they were cut down.   Her and Vahnon escaped.   While Rotana's mother bled out, Rotana received the Stone Mask. Rotana is psychotically attached to this mask. In her eyes, the mask is nearly equivalent to her mother's love. If the mask is ever taken from Rotana without first utterly defeating her, she will become completely irrational, and will do anything to get the mask back, including killing her allies.

Intellectual Characteristics

Rotana is very intelligent and has learned much in the way of past civilizations, the arcane, and fighting techniques. She is only really lacking in smithing and mechanical skills.

Morality & Philosophy

Rotana is not a good person.   Rotana believes the Gerudo are fools for casting aside their heritage and power. She believes if they would stand up for their past gods and join forces with the Yiga, they may be able to reclaim their lost culture, and more importantly, be less dependent on Hyrule. As it stands right now, she believes the Gerudo would utterly crumble if Hyrule were to show any kind of hostility, which is a dependency that is completely unacceptable to her.

Taboos

Rotana's existence is considered taboo. She knows many names, spells, and past events that the Sheikah have strived to wipe from existence.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Rotana wants her family's honor restored and for the Gerudo to acknowledge and accept the gods of their past. Even more so, she'd like them to stand up to Hyrule and expose them for blatantly destroying their culture -- a goal that her family has passed down for generations.   However, she doesn't actually believe that is possible, so she hyper fixates on gaining the knowledge she should have inherited from her family were they not killed and in reviving the old gods.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Rotana is extremely skilled with a blade and knows arcane arts that no one else knows. However, she is at a loss when it comes to technology.
