The Black Cloaks

The Black Cloaks is the supreme and best military unit the continent of the realms ever seen. This military unit is known for not wearing armour, instead they wear gambeson and black garments over, thus their name. Although the soldiers of the Black Cloaks does not have better protection than soldiers who wear steel plate armour, the Black Cloaks combine their advantage of speed and flexibility with their skill of all weapons combat. The soldiers of the Black Cloaks are highly skilled at combat and can be rated as better than most professional soldiers. The largest advantage the Black Cloaks have against regular legions of soldiers is the speed the Black Cloaks can travel at. Since the Black Cloaks wear gambeson instead of iron plate, they can travel faster with less weight. The solders are required to wear his gambeson at all times, so the legion is ready for surprise attack at all times.

Composition

Manpower

There are 10,000 people in the legion all together. The whole legion includes four divisions: 2 main divisions with 4,000 people each, and 2 special divisions with 1,000 each. The two main divisions are for prime battles, and the two special divisions are for special missions, surprise attacks, and more. The two special divisions are rarely used for main battles, but they can be used if necessary.

Equipment

The equipments of a soldier in all the Black Cloak divisions are the same. The required given equipments include:

A pack along with a sleeping bag and enough space to contain a water jug, extra garments, and a flint and steel

The Bach contains enough space to fit a few personal items

A weapon chosen by the soldier from either Melee weaponry, Long-range melee weaponry, and Long range weaponry

If one can be promoted into the mounted fighters, in which one will be assigned a horse to look after

A dagger for close combat

All will be given a shield

Weaponry

The three divisions of weaponry are Melee weaponry, Long-range melee weaponry, and Long range weaponry. Melee weaponry contains:

Swords (long, arming, or katana)

Maces

Axes

Long-range melee weaponry contains:

Structure

There are four admirals all together, with one for each division. Every 1,000 soldiers fall under a general. Every 100 soldiers fall under a commander. Every 10 soldiers fall under a leader.

Training

The soldiers must be trained and master all three categories of weaponry combat, along with hand to hand combat.

History

The Black Cloaks was originally a slave military group during the Age of Slaves. However, the group was freed and was recreated by real soldiers. The army was fairly passive during the ages as they only act when requested or paid. The original group did not change much to involved into the elite legion.
