Wolf

The wolves inhabiting the vast, shadowed reaches of Ravensvale Wood have always been formidable predators, embodying primal strength, cunning, and the relentless rhythm of nature. Neither purely good nor evil, they exist as apex hunters—respected by villagers, feared by prey, and admired by the lost elves who dwell deep within the wood.

In recent times, these wolves have become fiercely territorial, developing an intense hostility toward their corrupted kin, seeing them as twisted mockeries of their own proud lineage.

The Timber Wolves of Connifer Vale

The timber wolves found in the highlands and valleys of Connifer Vale are massive and powerful, much larger and sturdier than typical wolves. Their fur is thick and coarse, shades ranging from deep charcoal to silver-grey, allowing them perfect camouflage among rocky terrain and dense pine forests. Broad-chested and muscular, their strength rivals that of bears. They roam in small, tight-knit packs, fiercely protective of their territory.

The timber wolves maintain a wary but mutual respect with the lost elves of Connifer Vale. Some elves even bond closely with these wolves, riding them as loyal companions into battle or the hunt. But these wolves are wild-hearted creatures first and foremost, guided by instinct rather than morality, fiercely independent and often unpredictable. The largest, most powerful timber wolves are known to occasionally join the Wild Hunt, drawn by the primal energy and bloodlust of the chase.

The Forest Wolves of Ravensvale Wood

The smaller cousins of Connifer Vale’s timber wolves dwell primarily in the deeper reaches of Ravensvale Wood. Leaner, swifter, and smaller, these wolves are agile hunters, their coats dappled brown, tawny, or gray, perfectly suited for their woodland environment. Unlike their larger counterparts, they hunt in slightly larger packs, relying more on cunning, speed, and group tactics than brute force.

The elves dwelling within Ravensvale Wood respect and revere these wolves as fellow hunters and guardians of the wood's balance, though they rarely forge the same close bonds as their northern kin. The forest wolves live mostly at a distance from elves, yet recognize in them kindred spirits—hunters, survivors, and stewards of the primal wilderness.

Relationship with Corrupted Wolves

Both timber and forest wolves harbor intense hatred for corrupted wolves, known as Blight Wolves. They see these twisted creatures as unnatural aberrations—offensive corruptions of the sacred, primal bond shared by wolf-kind. Encounters between healthy wolves and their corrupted counterparts always end in vicious combat, as the forest’s true wolves relentlessly hunt down these tainted beings to restore balance and reclaim their territory.

Apex Predators and the Wild Hunt

The most powerful timber wolves, like Skalgar and Gormfang, are sometimes drawn into the Wild Hunt itself. Their primal strength, cunning, and predatory instincts make them invaluable allies or formidable adversaries, depending upon which side of the hunt one finds oneself. Their presence in the Hunt underscores their wild and untamed nature—predators who revel in the thrill of pursuit, unbound by morality, answering only to the primal law of strength and survival.
