General Events

General events to present to give a sense of stress, mystery and fear

The Crooked Rain"

Setup:
Late one evening, as the players rest or pass through the village, a strange rain falls — only over Ravenshollow itself.

  • The rain is icy cold but comes from a clear night sky.
  • It has an odd taste — bitter, metallic, faintly of ash if tasted.
  • Plants hit by the rain seem to wither slightly at the edges.
  • Dogs bark wildly, and the ravens on the green screech and take flight.

Observations:

  • If players pay close attention, they notice the rain falls straight down — but the wind is blowing sideways.
  • Wise characters might realize it’s not natural weather at all, but some kind of influence pressing downward from above — like a smothering hand.

What It Hints:

  • The corruption is starting to affect the natural order.
  • It is reaching toward the village in ways beyond Damos’s mischief.
  • A player strong in lore or folklore might connect this to old stories of unseen powers drawing closer when barriers thin.

Optional Follow-Up:

  • A villager collapses in the square the next morning, claiming to have dreamed of a "black stag standing on a hill of skulls."
  • This stag vision ties to the broader Gloomwood corruption, possibly the Wild Hunt or the entity’s influence if you want to use it later.

2. "The Silent Herd"

Setup:
While traveling near the fields or the Greenwood Reach, the players spot a herd of deer — unusually close to the village.

  • The deer stand perfectly still.
  • They don’t move even when approached.
  • Their eyes are glazed, reflecting faint green light.

Observations:

  • If the players approach, the deer will suddenly bolt — but all in perfect unison, as if one mind guided them.
  • A careful tracker could note that their hooves leave small scorches where they stood, as if the grass burned slightly under them.

What It Hints:

  • The corruption is not just in spirits and people — it’s starting to seep into the natural world.
  • Even normal wildlife is being drawn into unnatural patterns.
  • Players might later recognize similar signs deeper in the Gloomwood, reinforcing that the land itself is growing wrong.

Optional Follow-Up:

  • If players inspect the area closely after the deer flee, they find small black thorns growing from the base of a few plants — a familiar, subtle nod toward Damos and the dark forces behind him.
