Nardah, The City of the Future
Nardah, sometimes called the City of the Future is widely regarded as the most technologically advanced city within Siridia, and continues to push the boundaries of what humanity believes to be capable of. While they do not shun the use of magic, they have preferred to keep much of their developing technology and magical arts completely separate, often taking the more scientific route where possible. Having harnessed the raw electrical energy of the galvanic winds and used them as the central power source of the Tarazeds, Nardah has paved the way for a new age of scientific progression. The rapid progression has begun to call into question what has more potential, the use of science or magic.
While the modern age of Nardah is one of a prospective future, the path leading to it was a long an arduous one. Nardah was first founded in the Third Age by a woman named Nardarine. Nardarine was a Lehranist living in the northern desert that was destroyed in a battle between Lehran and Ourokazan forces. Nardarine escaped before the fighting grew serious, and found herself wandering alone in the desert. She prayed to Lehran for aid, but he was too focused on the ongoing battle to pay attention. However the Goddess Elidnis heard her prayers and brought water to her. Nardarine asked Elidnis to grant her a place where she could live a quiet life, free from the suffering of the God Wars. Elidnis agreed to this on the condition that Nardarine and her descendants would swear an oath of fealty to her, and created the city of Nardah. Elidnis gave her a small statuette, and claimed that as long as the statuette stood within the cities walls, and it's people prayed to her, they would have her protection. In time, more refugees from the God Wars would come to the city, and Nardarine allowed them to stay so long as they made the same oath of fealty she had made.
Though as the God Wars came to it's end, and Elidnis was banished from Gielinor, the people of Nardah were left at a strange crossroads. Many believed that without the cataclysmic God Wars ravaging the world, there was no need to worship Elidnis anymore as they no longer needed her protection. As the Fourth age came, and centuries passed, the people of Nardah would slowly abandon their faith to Elidnis. A Lehranist priest, named Ravalin Loseman travelled to city of Nardah and slowly sowed the seeds of Lehranist ideologies to it's people. The negligence that the Nardahns showed to Elidnis had angered three water spirits, that resided in the River Elid. The three spirits, Nirrie, Tillin, and Hallak, were responsible for allowing individuals to draw water from the River Elid, and Nardah especially relied on River Elid to function. As punishment for abandoning Elidnis, the three spirits cursed the Nardahns with being unable to draw water from the river, which would send the city on a downward spiral.
The Nardahns had believed the three water spirits to simply be old wives tales, so they didn't realise what had been done. Ravalin Losema convinced the Nardahns that Elidnis had fully abandoned them and changing faith to Lehranism was the only way to save their people. In doing so they would need to abandon the ancient statuette given to Nardarine from many years ago. It was quickly disposed of, but this incurred the wrath of the three water spirits. The three spirits chose to kill Ravalin, leaving his body in the centre of the city for all to see. Once again confused by what this meant, the Nardahns would call out to Elidnis for guidance. The three spirits answered and they claimed that if the statuette was not returned to it's original location, than the city of Nardah would be no more. Quickly understanding their own folly, the statuette would be restored and peace would once again be brought to the city of Nardah. The spirits claimed that while they did not mind Ravalin preaching his ways, it would be the abandonment of the statuette that would be the final straw.
The Water Spirits watched the Nardahns closely to ensure they would always remember that Nardah was a gift from Elidnis. As time progressed the relationship between Nardahns and the spirits also changed. Soon the spirits would frequently visit the city and took interest in the general happenings of day to day life. Throughout the Fourth Age the Spirits of the Elid would eventually begin to mate with the Nardahns creating a unique half human, half spiritual race that they called the Elidians. While still very few in number, the modern day Nardah still has several Elidians within the city. The Elidians are viewed as a very important faction of people believed to carry the essence of Elidnis herself in them. Many Elidians often take to high profile jobs within Nardah, and usually find themselves working amongst the governing agency.
The Elidians seemed to possess a higher level of intelligence than many of the average people, and used it develop the early prototypes of what later become the "Spark Nets" that are used in the modern age to absorb and manipulate the Galvanic Winds of Menaphos. While many Elidians have a knack for invention and innovation, they have largely moved away from the development of scientific tools, and often do their best to always remind the Nardahns of their history- and that Elidnis should always be deeply respected.
