The Return: Session #15
General Summary
Having followed the two mysterious thugs into a dark alley, the heroes found their prey hovering around a rundown building.
The thugs discovered the heroes when they attempted to listen in on their discussion. After Tiny Tymm's failed attempt to seduce the half-orc and Burtak mentioning the stolen items, the thugs turned to run for the building. Burtak tackled the half-orc while Kurdan and Tiny Tymm chased the human.
Inside the building, the heroes found a group of humans--- that would transform into hyena-humanoids after quaffing some tainted blood. A rolling battle had the heroes follow the villains into the flooding sewers where the hyena-people housed hyenas that joined the battle.
The hyena men continued to flee the heroes, and the heroes found some challenges in their pursuit. At one point, they tied a rope over an open area of flooding sewer water and swung over... while another challenge required them to swim under some iron grating to access the hyena-people's lair.
The heroes found the lair was a set of older ruins that the hyena people were using as part of an operation of stealing from Harcourt citizens and making them pay to get their possessions back.
A large battle broke out-- the hyena-men were joined by a hyena-ogre like monstrosity and their leader--- a hyena woman with spellcasting abilities.
While Burtak and Kurdan faced the monstrosity as the horrid creature pulled itself into a tight hallway after them, Tiny Tymm was left alone with the leader and two of the hyena people on the other side of the hall.
The monstrosity's limited movement greatly dampened its ability to fight, and the combined might of Kurdan and Burtak were able to defeat the creature.
Tiny Tymm faced dangerous foes, but it was the first time that he was able to unleash his fireballs upon his enemies. The hyena people were not able to resist the blasts, and while Tymm was pulled into a dangerous underground river... he was able to defeat his foes.
With their enemy's defeated, they heroes explored the ruins. They found the leader was using the money from their thefts to fund some type of research in making the tainted blood potions. Whatever their plans, the heroes had stopped them. They also found the missing books and scrolls salvaged from the dwarven shipwreck.
Returning above ground, the heroes returned to Noko. Bartuk made it clear that while he was taking the books, he intended to uphold their bargain of sharing the books when he was done. As a sign of good faith, he gave Noko a dragon dust recipe. She was quite shocked by Bartuk's generosity.
The heroes met Danalise back at the Third Ostrich. As Bartuk requested, she had investigated how he might exorcise the primal spirit of the crocodile from his body. Danalise suggested that if the heroes built a shrine to the Crocodile, then the spirit may leave his body and take up home there. It would have to be a location friendly to crocodiles.
The heroes returned to Barrowmista as they considered places to build this shrine.
