Seaton Settlement in Ghosts of Saltmarsh | World Anvil

Seaton

Few cities have been fought over more than Seaton. Located on the northern end of the Island of Flowers and the The Shattered Narrows, it allows controls the only alternative water way to the Ma'apua Straight.   Both the Sea Prince Nations and Keoland claim to have originally founded and fortified Seaton. After the The Great War Seaton was seceded to Keoland and it has remained in its jurisdiction since.   After the Great War it was the only official trade port for goods travelling from the two countries. This allowed greater oversight over potential smuggling rings, and justified a higher government presence in the newly acquired town. It also let the modest fishing town grow to a major international port and cosmopolitan community.   One of the largest areas of Seaton is the old Cannery District. At its heyday commercial and local fisherman slung crab, trout, sardines, herring, cod, sole, veil fish, and sea serpents at the marina, while local fishermen compared stories of their largest catch at the fillet table. One crew claimed to have caught a giant hermit crab, those this claim remained unsubstantiated. Local wildlife enthusiast and tourists canned the coal lines for all types of sea birds. After the Two Weeks War the canning industry exploded. Canneries filled eight blocks of the coastal district, covering all different methods of preservation, and production grew from 60,000 cases to 568,549 cases. This was possible to do the cold, nutrient water from the bottom of the Ma'apua Straight.   A combination of King Scotti shift from military expansion to industrial development, and the inevitable result of overfishing brought inevitable economic disaster to the area. Mr. Dory and the other Seaton leaders have shifted the development into a military outpost. Few visitors would recognize the drab fortress as the same city once portrayed in vibrant artwork and literature.
