Broadsword

The broadsword is a basket hilted, one bladed, slashing, light finesse weapon, used mostly for personal protection from bandits or ne'erdowells, and often compared to a cutlass or short sword.  One of the benefits of this weapon is the total hand protection it provides via its basket hilt, a metal cage that fully surrounds hand.

1d8 slashing damage. Light, finesse melee weapon.  While holding this sword ready and taking the dodge action, gain +1 to AC until the start of your next turn.

History

Broadswords were first crafted by goblin smiths, trying to keep their hands from being lopped off in battle while still providing a light, maneuverable weapon that could be utilized even in tight, narrow spaces.
