Whitesburg Exclusion Zone

The Whitesburg Exlusion Zone is an 1,800 sqare mile steech of land south of Whitesburg that has been cut off from the rest of Iyass due to it's high radioactivity and inhospitable nature. The Zone came to be after the Republican army detonated 7 high yeild nuclear bombs in this region in an attempt to halt the Imperial Army's advance. The resulting fallout from this scorched earth operation caused the complete collapse of the areas ecology. The few plants and animals that survived have turned into grotesqe mutations of their former selves.

Geography

The exlusion zone is dotted with plains and rolling hills. It is surrounded to the east and west by the Sedna and Tangaroa Oceans. The Wyrmstooth Mountains cut through this area as well.

Ecosystem

The Exclusion Zone is a barren wasteland. Most plant life is dead and the soil is exposed. The creatures that live in this area have mutated in nightmarish ways to adapt to the new environment.

Localized Phenomena

Due to the exposed soil, during droughts wind can whip up radioactive dust storms. During wet weather, the soil can liquify in some places, creating a quicksand like effect and making this area difficult to traverse after rainy weather.
Storms can often pick up radioactive material from the Exclusion Zone and dump it across Iyass. Gieger counters as far north as Vallheim have detected traces of ionizing radiation spread from storms over the Exclusion Zone.
