Getninia Invention of Lanteen Rigging

Invention of Lanteen Rigging

Discovery, Scientific

2304

Dotharan shipbuilders invent the lanteen sail. An evolution of earlier fore-and-aft rigging such as the spritsail, lateen rigging was an important breakthrough on the early Tealastrian Sea, enabling a ship to sail against the wind. This allowed the early Empire contact with distant empires in southern Galisea such as the Yulan-tai, and later facilitated colonisation of Qua'adar.

This was one of many breakthroughs possible during the spirit of equality, progress, and cosmopolitanism that dominated the early post-reformation period of the Empire. This was only encouraged by now-Emperor Yuileïa Èrintrèlis.
