Wyvern Species in Getninia | World Anvil

Wyvern

Wyverns are powerful flying reptilian animals, counted among the lesser dragons that are native to Galisea, Wyverns themselves believed to hail from Aeilla. Wyverns are apex predators that are highly dangerous to most forms of terrestrial wildlife and can be exceptionally bothersome to farmers. When Wyverns can be tamed however, wyverns are highly prized as mounts for elite soldiers, particularly among the aerial cavalry of the Aeillan Successor States, and of other previous states in the region. This has made Wyverns something of a status symbol, and many who seek to demonstrate their strength and power will adopt and raise tame Wyverns as symbols of office as much as mounts.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Wyverns have exceptionally strong senses, with five basic senses, sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, though it is suspected that they might also have an additional sixth spatial sense. Wyverns rely primarily on their sense of smell which is extremely strong, capable of detecting prey up to three or four kilometers away from them. Wyverns also have a strong sense of sight and can, at short range, see normally even in total darkness. The other senses of wyverns are less emphasized, though none are particularly deficient.
