Session IX: Palace Infiltration Report

General Summary

54 Flirel, 429 PE

The siege begins in earnest the afternoon of the 54th. Yusuf's cannons pulverise sections of the wall through the night, with only 3 of their 20 cannons taken out by the Sorenian trebuchets.

55 Flirel, 429 PE

By early morning, at first light, the party heads out. They can see the wall is completely reduced to rubble in five places, along with the glow of fires where the fortifications and buildings have taken damage. Concurrently, General Yusuf leads a team of 100 Dotharan Oyemorns to take the western bridge, while his Captains Bassam and Hosni will sort out and coordinate the barges into the breaches along the wall.   Ìmbrìl leads the hippogriffs in Riven's absence as she join's the infiltration. The party makes it across the canal, although Riven not being the best swimmer, simply flies. As Gash and Faolan open the grate into the sewer, Riven goes and saves each a Dotharan and Sorenian soldier that felll from the battle above as Yusuf's assault proceeds. The party enters the sewer, Hesior re-affixing the grate to the entrance. The cannon fire above ground shakes the tunnel, dislodging debris from the ceiling. With Ravadi in the middle of a box, Gash and Hesior at the back, Faolan and Riven at the front.    When they reach the fork, before they turn right a cannon impact dislodges a bunch of rocks from the ceiling above Riven and Faolan, though neither is harmed as the dodge out of the way. The party reaches the large chamber with all the other sewage pipes that open into several channels with gates to control flow of refuse. Taking the left, hopping into the deeper refuse, ankle-deep. After reaching the ladder into the palace dungeon, Faolan ascends the ladder to scope the scene. After making sure the coast is clear, he signals to the others to climb. Hesior and Gash take point in the palace.   Leading them to the first level of the dungeon, they find some prisoners, including Dotharan prisoners of war. All of the half-elves have been stripped. Aside from a non-verbal grimace to their sewer smell, none of the prisoners acknowledge them. This realisation prompts Riven to thaumaturgy (through a low frequency sound), making them less rank.   Ravadi takes point out of the dungeons. On Faolan's suggestion, they come up with a cover story involving Ravadi buying off some mercs from the Dotharans, and escaping with them and Gash, with Hesior as a prisoner. The pparty makes a detour to the armory of the palace, where Gash finds a helmet, ironically bearing the crest of the Sacred Knights. While Gash tries on the different helmets, Hesior through Eye for Detail notices a discoloured brick, it's limestone noticeably newer than the other bricks. He presses it, and the wall where the helmets were lowers into the ground, revealing a dark staircase.   Putting his night vision goggles on, Faolan heads down the stairs. The staircase goes down deeper than the sewer, and by the time they reach the end of the staircase, they can no longer hear the din of the battle above, in fact, the massive corridor is completely devoid of sound, dark, and even with he night vision goggles, Faolan cannot see the end of the massive hall. As they turn to leave, he and Riven perceive that they're being watched - though not by eyes. They decide to look into this later.    Ravadi makes a convincing speech, swaying all but one of the military advisors and giving the Sacred Knights pause. When one of the miltiary advisors politiely suggests Kaelbryn abdicate, he strikes him with the Steward's Scepter, an act of desecration that turns his Sacred Knights against him. Knowing the room is not under his control, he drops the scepter and tosses the crown to the ground, which Ravadi takes. Interrogating Kaelbryn as one of the Sacred Knights and his advisors take him into custody, they take two manuscripts that he tried to clandestinely stash away in a pouch during Ravadi's speech. Ravadi says that the first manuscript will take a day to translate from Early Feloran Script, but when she opens the second manuscript, she winces in pain from the sudden onset of a headache.
