Grek People

The Grek people are small folk who have lived in the region now known as Qua'adar for as long as anyone can remember, with even Yulan-Tai historical records mentioning their existence. The ancient Grek appear to have developed an advanced civilization with mastery of bronzesmithing, written language, and developed agricultural networks along the Airsh River. After the War of Frozen Scales however, the Grek underwent a number of catastrophes that Grek societies could not recover from resulting in breakup of a unified Grek civilization into much smaller local communities, and the loss of the ability to maintain or understand a lot of technology, something which they have not yet recovered from.   Grek culture is largely still a mystery as their language is difficult to understand even with the assistance of magical translation, and the Grek themselves have become increasingly secretive. There are a number of things that have been observed by Grek Scholars, a rare sort that have managed to find Grek communities and build a rapport with them. What is known points to the Grek maintaining a highly religious and communitarian nature with the priestly caste being the dominant peoples in the hiearchy. In Grek society, this leads to Grek priestesses becoming leaders of most communities, and matrilineal tracing of familial titles. It has also led to foreign women being accepted moreso than foreign men when attempting access Grek society from the outside.    The Grek have suffered greatly under a number of incoming foreign occupiers culminating in the Hadar peoples who have pushed the Grek to the point of near extinction in the five centuries of their unquestioned dominance of the region, a factor which has fueled increasing Grek isolation. The few remaining Grek communities exist in the deserts of Qua'adar, and are often cut off from one another, with only a handful of Grek travelers keeping these societies connected, and cohesive enough to retain their shared culture.
