General Summary

Lucius Devrai, a docent from Waterdeep, arrives in Saltmarsh with a message from his chair to Felicia Beaurepaire. The message contains information about Miletus for Adrie. Adrie meets with Lucius, and recommends her companions as contacts to help put him up or find work in Saltmarsh. Lucius runs into them (except Tauflin, who is helping Salley plan repairs at the Helmont House) after responding to a job ad at the Five Flames Company. The group is hired by Dhellart Nightblade to deliver a large shipment of nails to the general store in Sanctuary. Salley alleges that Nightblade is a recent arrival, but reliable. Along the way to Sanctuary, the trade a couple of crates (and a bag of hammers) to Dragon Turtle Clan goblins for some strings of welk shells. After arriving in town, it turns out that no one ordered these nails, and then the party has to figure out what to do with them. They convince the general store proprietor and a nearby homesteader to buy a few more, and the next day, head back to Saltmarsh. Along the way, they sell two more crates to the same goblins. After returning to town, they find the whole Five Flames establishment gone. After consulting with Felicia, they discover they’ve been tricked into delivering iron into the hands of goblins – an illegal act according to the treaty that ended the Goblin War one decade ago.
