Zakath

Also known as: the Scourge, the Thorned One   One of the Blood Gods of the vampiric pantheon, Zakath is the god of pain and punishment. He's the youngest of the five siblings.   Despite his deceptively charming demeanor, Zakath is the cruelest of the Blood Gods and takes wicked enjoyment in the work he does. Though he serves a purpose of sorts, existing to mete out punishment to those who break the codes of conduct that govern vampire society, it's no secret that he enjoys pain for pain's sake and finds that far more appealing than any pretense of order or justice. His followers fear him as much as they're feared by other vampires.

Depictions

Typically depicted in the nude, inhuman true form that most of the Blood Gods favor, Zakath is typically shown as a youth right on the borderline between adolescence and maturity. He's shown wielding his long claws or a barbed whip, often in the process of using it on the subjects of his punishments. While most of his body is unmarked and physically perfect, Zakath is sometimes depicted with lash marks on his back that suggest his sadism is pronounced enough to also express itself as masochism. When shown in human or semi-human form he'll wear a draping waistwrap that's stark white to emphasize the brightness of bloodstains. He'll often be shown with a bloody mouth.

Typical Chosen

Relatively rare, Zakath's chosen bear the dubious distinction of being vicious and sociopathic even among vampires. It's thought that Zakath picks them not only because they match his own nature, but also because he's the only one cruel enough to keep them in line so that they don't disrupt vampiric society as a whole. As such, being chosen by Zakath without the mitigating factor of being dedicated to his service tends to make an individual the subject of suspicion and mistrust among others of their kind.   Accordingly, many of Zakath's chosen become dedicated followers known as Executioners for a socially sanctioned way to let out their own violent urges. They serve as the closest thing that vampiric society has to a peacekeeping force or any greater system of law; when conflicts or rogue behavior threated to expose the race to the wider world, it's Executioners who step in to settle the matter... often by destroying the offending party or parties. Having an Executioner about can be an unpredictable and dangerous thing, though, providing incentive for vampire clans to settle their own matters internally.
