The Crossroads
The ancient prison where the Blood Gods imprisoned their elder brother in the aftermath of the Blood War, Crossroads is a mysterious place about which little is known. It's not clear whether it's even located in the physical world, and many believe that it's some sort of free-floating space existing somewhere in the Otherlands.
Location
The exact location of the Crossroads, whether on the material plane or somewhere else entirely, has always been a mystery. Though it's well-known by name as the place where the Bound One is locked away, the legends have little detail and it's long been a goal of followers of the Bound One to discover how to access the place. It's thought that even if the Crossroads are located somewhere in the Otherlands, a door exists somewhere in the Old World through which mortals can gain access. At one point in time, during the height of the Resurrection War in 1604 CE, followers of the Bound One located and gained access to Crossroads and came dangerously close to freeing the vampire god contained within. They were defeated by a coalition of vampires loyal to the Blood Gods working in uneasy alliance with the Reaper Rei Arren and following this defeat the entrance was magically relocated to an unknown location. Arren took the secret to his grave, and it's once more a mystery.Layout and Features
It's not known whether Crossroads was created specifically for the purpose of containing the Bound One, or whether its origins are older still; whatever the case, the place is said to resemble a great cathedral to some unknown power. The appearance of its exterior or the environment that surrounds it is a mystery and seems completely unrelated to the location that surrounded its entrance when last it was found. Entry through the main doors leads to a small atrium, with several hallways leading off into the darkness. While seemingly designed to be a beautiful, sunlit place with windows set high on the walls, it's now dark and layered thick with undisturbed dust. Two great doors lead to the main sanctuary where the Bound One himself is imprisoned. The sanctuary is a vast semicircular room, lined all along its curving wall with paneled glass windows that must have looked spectacular when lit by the sun. The room is impossibly tall and vanishes into the darkness, suggesting it's well in excess of a hundred feet or more to the ceiling. The remains of wooden pews are shoved haphazardly to the side, collecting dust; in the near-center of the room is a small raised platform maybe a foot and a half high, made of the same sandy-colored stone as the floor. All of the Sanctuary's majesty, however, is thoroughly eclipsed by the presence of the Bound One himself. The god is massive, hung inverted with his lower legs vanishing up into the darkness and head perhaps twenty feet off the ground; his six arms are pulled wide and shackled with thick chains that seem to sprout organically from the walls of the sanctuary. Blood running down from the Bound One's blinded eyes has stained the floor below him a dark, oily color. All around him, much smaller chains hang down and wrap the corpses of black birds, either crows or ravens, who hang similarly inverted with wings trailing limply; the purpose of these is unknown, and it's though they're somehow involved in the spell that keeps him restrained due to the fact that their bodies seem pristine and fresh despite Crossroads' age.Population
Carefully sealed away from the world, Crossroads has no inherent population other than its sole prisoner. Or rather, its prisoner and his sole creation; a bizarre being known as Shatterglass was formed during the process of the god's imprisonment from the power of his raw emotions, and now roams the place as an extension of the Bound One's will. Shatterglass is a single entity but has three identical, monstrous bodies that share the same mind. It seems to be able to materialize any or all of these out of the deep shadows of the Crossroads at any time, meaning that it's a formidable threat to anyone who'd stumble across the place uninvited.Remove these ads.
