Rei Arren
Spending most of his life in the solitary pursuit of his duties to Fate, Rei Arren was drawn back into the complicated machinations of others in his final years of life. He is best remembered for his involvement in the Resurrection War, preventing the revival of the Bound One and sealing the forbidden god away once more.
Despite everything in their respective backgrounds setting them in opposition to one another, Rei and Robin became fast friends during the time that Rei was a prisoner of the Seraphs. Robin's willingness at such a young age to defy his family in befriending the Reaper left Rei with a deep regret for the waste of a life that might have been so different without the Seraphs' corrupting influence. The vast difference in their ages led to them naturally falling into a familial sort of bond, and Rei spent the rest of his life considering Robin the closest thing he would have to a son. AMIRA VAHNTAL
Despite only knowing each other for a few days, Amira left a deep impression on Rei after they met through chance when Rei was travelling in the Old World. Though she discovered that he was the Reaper entirely by chance, Rei appreciated her willingness to keep his secret and was later impressed by the young woman's courage in the face of supernatural danger she had no experience with or understanding of. Though their paths never crossed again, Rei immensely valued his time with Amira as a reminder of his own humanity and the inherent strength in even the mildest of people. GABRIELLE DARKTIDE & JAHLEL DARKTIDE
Made allies of circumstance during the Resurrection War, Rei warily considered Gabrielle and Jahlel the closest to what he might consider friends among the vampires. Though he was more apt to get along with Jahlel due to their similar demeanors and tended to find Gabrielle's teasing flirtations tiresome, he granted the two just enough trust to fight alongside them to great effect. They parted ways at the end of the war.
Personality
Quiet and self-sufficient by nature, preferring to keep his own company, Rei was known for being businesslike and distant in his dealings with other people. Even those who interacted with him often found him intimidating, not out of any conscious effort but simply because his full attention could come across as too intense. Time spent alone meant that his social skills lacked a certain level of finesse, and he was often described as having a falcon's stare. Between his forbidding lack of warmth and the fact that he was the Reaper, many who dealt with him found themselves left shaken by their interactions. To the rare few who knew him closely, Rei's cold demeanor was understood to be a carefully maintained thing; he forced himself to be satisfied with very little to keep himself from regretting all the things that his life couldn't be as a result of his duty to Fate . Despite that self-denial, he felt very strongly about the few things he allowed himself to care about. Rei's intensity applied to all things in his life, and the people he loved he loved whole-heartedly even if he rarely let them see it.Abilities
Like all Reapers, Rei had the ability to see fate, a link to his god, magical talent, an instinctual proficiency for weapons, fasthealing, and more. He also benefited from the falcon spirit he was associated with by being able to manifest wings, letting him fly under his own power. Rei used this ability to great effect, and integrated the increased maneuverability and bludgeoning capabilities of his wings into the way he fought. Though most Reapers have a heightened ability to shake off the Bloodfear generated by vampires, either experience or some innate resistance meant that it had almost no effect on Rei. This gave him an edge that gained him a fierce reputation among vampires, and one that he used to great effect during the conflicts of the Resurrection War.Backstory
Initially born in the Old World with no knowledge of the presence of magic or Genesis itself, Rei grew up as the son of poor farmers somewhere in middle Europe. His parents died at different points during his childhood, leaving him to be raised by an aunt and uncle who took him in alongside their own children. While he wasn't neglected by his foster family, the realities of a hardworking lifestyle and the fact he wasn't close in age to any of his cousins meant that he never bonded particularly closely with anyone in his household. As he was reaching adulthood and beginning to look towards making a life for himself despite few prospects, Rei was approached by his predecessor Kimia Malya in order for her to pass him the mantle of Reaper. Despite being blindsided and with very little choice in the matter, he embraced the chance at a life with purpose for himself. Being Fate's servant suited him; beholden to none but his god, with the means to live and travel freely without needing to tie himself to others. The vast majority of his time as Reaper goes unrecorded. Rei familiarized himself with the powers of Genesis enough to fulfil what responsibilities he had but didn't go out of his way to become a part of society, and few knew him well. He spent more and more of his time alone for the better part of two centuries, carrying out his duties effectively and quietly. A major turning point came in the last few decades of Rei's life, when he was taken prisoner by the Seraph family. Held in captivity for months while the Seraphs tried to determine how to destroy him entirely, Rei ended up befriending a Seraph child called Robin who eventually helped him escape at the cost of his own life. Mourning the loss of the only person he'd called friend in more than a century, Rei resolved to try and use his remaining years reclaiming some of the humanity he'd left behind. Some years later, Rei was unexpectedly approached by emissaries from the vampire powers of the Old World. Despite the longstanding emnity between the two, Rei's assistance as the representative of the Great Gods was asked for in order to oppose a suspected plot to resurrect an imprisoned god known as the Bound One. When the intra-vampiric conflict known as the Resurrection War broke out, Rei sided against the followers of the Bound One and helped defeat them. The Bound One himself was re-sealed inside a place known as the The Crossroads, the location of which Rei kept a secret until his death. Rei Arren died eight years after the end of the Resurrection War, passing his mantle as Reaper along to the Swan Reaper Fa Mei Ling as he did so.Important Relationships
