Wizard
Wizard is a term that is used to describe spellcasters who derive their magic from dedicated study and research. To wizards, magic is a science with rules and laws, and it is their prerogative to break and redefine such limitations.
Career
Qualifications
Those that learn magic through an instructor, or "by the books," follow the tradition of wizardry. Many nations have wizarding academies and schools of magical education that produce such practitioners, but the secrets of magic are difficult to contain and unaffiliated agents may learn wizardry outside of such institutions.
Operations
Tools
A wizard's most important tool is their spellbook. A spellbook si where wizards record and maintain their growing corpus of spellcraft. Such an object details the prerequisites for casting a spell, such as the casting time, required materials, gestures, invocations, and duration. Without a spellbook, a wizard is unable to grow, and are stuck with whatever spells they can recall from memory.
The spellbook, though often taking the form of a tome or codex, need not strictly be a book. Any method of recording and storing spells will do.
Materials
Although a wizard requires many unique and specific ingredients for their own personal list of spells, most wizards typically keep on their person the following objects:
- Some sort of weapon for self-defense (as one cannot solely rely on magic)
- Either a component pouch (a container wherein a wizard stores the material components for their spellcasting) or a casting focus (such as a focusing crystal, a wand, a staff, a rod, a piece of jewelry, etc.)
- Transcription supplies consisting of ink, parchment, and a quill
- Their spellbook (most importantly)

Legality
In many parts of the world, the usage of magic within city limits is heavily regulated. High-level spellcasters must have a permit to use spells above a certain echelon of power inside these cities, although it varies from country to country. Some places outright ban the usage of magic within their walls.
