Demographics

The demographic distribution of Tecolotl is as follows: Yuan-Ti (57%), Other races (33%).
Among Yuan-Ti, the demographic distribution is as follows: Purebloods (55%), Broodguards (26%), Malisons (18%), Abominations (<1%).

Government

King Sahliss, the anathema, rules with an iron fist over the remainder of the city. Few other abominations also take high positions below the King, and malisons below them subjugate the purebloods, who do much of the work and living within the city. Broodguards below them do the most intensive of the manual labor.

Defences

The city of Tecolotl is defended by the many Mind Whisperers, warlocks of Zehir, as well as the Nightmare Speakers and Pit Masters, clerics of Zehir. Additionally, the abominations and even the anathema of Tecolotl hold incredibly powerful innate magic. Many giant constrictor snakes and other snakes guard the city against slave revolts and invaders.

History

Near the beginning of the Third Age, a group of Humans settling in the Wildwood settled in a swamp with many ancient monuments from a mysterious, ancient civilization dedicated to Zehir. The humans began to follow the inscriptions and following the whispers of Zehir, leading to their first sacrificial rituals of both humans and serpents, leading to the birth of the first Yuan-Ti, and later the founding of the first ziggurat that would soon become the center of the city of Tecolotl. As the city grew and more Yuan-Ti were born and created, more ziggurats were built and their regime expanded. By the end of the Fourth Age, the city reached the peak of its size, which it remains at to this day.

Architecture

The style is very much an ancient Aztec style, with many similar artistic styles taken for both the buildings as well as the visual art created by the Yuan-Ti, from frescas inside temples to great sculptures revering the god Zehir. Many large buildings such as the ziggurats and city walls are constructed out of stone, and many places of housing are built of nearby jungle woods.

Geography

The city is deep within the southern tip of the Wildwood, a lush jungle similar to that of The Calathis Archipelago. It is very close to not only the West Sea to its south, but also the Wildwood Gulf to their north.

Climate

The climate is very hot and humid, and it rains every couple of days. Much of the moisture comes from the mist evaporating off of the many trees within and surrounding the city.
